whats the General consensus? Good, Bad Mediocre ?
I have always had good customer service at Futureshop but they are commission based so sometimes pushy...I prefer Best Buy which is owned by Futureshop but the employees are not commission based, so they seem alot more patient and not pushy at all...I would however stay away from buying extended warranties from either of them, as they rarely make good on them, in my family/friends experience I have heard nothing but horror stories about warranty problems...I have electronics, games, Satelitte and ipods and no problems ever myself, but I never got the extended warranties.
My husband is a manager at Future Shop so I'm biased - but I won't say which way :)
FYI - Best Buy actually owns Future Shop (not the other way around.) While it's true that the employees do not make commission at Best Buy, they do make bonuses if their teams make their sales targets.
Never EVER buy the extended warranties, they are the biggest money makers for these types of stores, I can't remember the exact figure but something like 80% of the money received from the warranties becomes pure profit for the store.
As far as customer service, if you have a specific question to ask that's fine but you should arm yourself with some knowledge about whatever it is you're looking to purchase- basically what I'm saying is don't go in there and say "help I need a tv but have no idea what I should get", do a little background work and you'll be able to have a useful conversation with the store employee rather than being told what that you need the most expensive item they have.
oh and NEVER BUY CABLES from futureshop, you can get them online for less than $10 when futureshop wants $40+
hope this helps :)
oops double post
you mean future shop has customer service?? and here i thought just pushy sales people trying to upsell.. atleast thats what my experince
I always get extended warranty and works out well for me :D But yea, customer service? Try bumbling idiots who know nothing about computers or mp3 players.
i don't have any idea about this but you search it on Google..there is everything what you want...
I have had HORRIBLE customer service at Future Shop. The employees don't seem to know much about whatever the department is that they're working in whatsoever.
Personally, I'd rather go somewhere that has a good price match policy than buy something that was on sale at Future Shop. That way, I'd get the product, price, and service I wanted. London Drugs has a good, useable policy for pretty much everything-and they carry a lot of different products, though probably not as many as the huuuge stores like Best buy and Future Shop. I'd call ahead and make sure it's something they carry and then get them to match it.
lol one time my daughter and I were looking for the movie "Josie and the pussycats" - so we went to future shop - I finally found a young kid and asked if they had it - well flat out no - he would not look it up he just said no they don't have it - I found it really odd given how many movies they sell that he would know an obscure older film
Overall I have found that most of the staff don't want to do the leg work for small sales
Their okay. I tend to go to Best Buy though as their store is cleaner, the prices are the same and they have more staff to help(usually).
I've had horrible customer service there unless I was buying a higher priced items and then they fine. I can never find anyone when I need someone and when ever I have been to the desk I've had to stand in line forever while 1 person does all the work and the other 3 people are taking their time doing other things.
There was one time I was trying to buy the wii fit (when they first came out and were hard to find) and the website had said that 10 were in stock but I dont trust websites so I called and asked if they had any and the guy was like let me see oh ya we have 10 in stock. So I was like great and went there on my lunch break and then get there and look all over the store and don't see anyone. Finally found someone to ask and he looked it up and was like there should be 10 and he couldn't find them goes and looks in the back and goes oh they are all back there reserved. Thanks for wasting my time.
I usually wish for invisibility at commission-based places b/c usually I already have a good idea of what I want (i.e. I research the heck out of it). But I will say, Future Shop employees are very helpful at showing me the specific item I'm looking for, or ging down personnel from another section to help, or giving discounts. I've never had a problem with returning an item.
I got a special discount on ink for my laser printer from a salesperson once, and my parents got HUGE discounts for buying major appliances (this did require my parents to drive around to competing stores to get quotes, but they saved thousands that afternoon!).
I worked there, in the movie/vd/game dept. and I could have told you that we didn't carry that. When you price and shelve the movies, you tend to learn what you have and don't have. But hey, he could have been full off it cuz he was lazy or whatever, but it IS possible he knew. :P
And to the person who said Don't by the "extended warranty". Uhm... BAD ADVICE!!! First of all, an extended warranty is simply that.. it extends the length of the MANUFACTURERS warranty. Future shops SERVICE PLAN is not through the manufacturer at all. You bring your item back, they send it out at THEIR cost, and either fix or replace the thing. manufacturers only cover parts and labour. the service plan covers everything else. Its much more like insurance. it covers everything as long as there isn't any physical damage.
1 example... years back I bought my parents a really old dvd player for $25, and the service plan for $10... for 5 years. they brought it back 3 years later with a rented dvd stuck in the player. Someone had to take out like.. 50 screws to get the dvd player out, and they replaced the whole thing with a new dvd player, which I now have and is still running perfectly. it was a $70 player.
I have brought back cell phones, cameras, dvd players, & a PDA and DEFINITELY got my moneys worth every single time. Yes, you hear "omg horror stories.. they wouldn't fix my thing".... but that is like... 1 in about 500, and its usually because they found physical damage.
So really, I would not go telling people NOT to get the "extended warranty". let them make up their own minds based on the facts of what the service plan really is.
(and no, i don't work there anymore, haven't for 5 years) lol
Is a melted charger PHYSICAL?
DH got the extended, and his laptop got so heat, melted the charger, they wanted to charge him $800.
