I haven't read the whole thread but another look at this question is about much later in life. I have a friend who married a man 18 years older. They've had a good marriage although his children ( who were just a couple years younger than her) had troubles with it. But now, when she is 55 and he is 73, he suffers from issues which have totally made it impossible for them to go anywhere. She is well but he is not. Of course this can happen with people who are the same age and we do marry "in sickness and in health" but this is something to consider - it's much more likely to happen with a wide age range.
My dad was 2 years younger than my mum - and she has outlived him by 11 years so far - they had a solid 52 year marriage.
