The average Italian has a net worth two times as much as Canadians. I thought their country was a shambles. The average freaking Spaniard has a higher net worth than Americans. I guess buying on credit for the last three decades didn’t actually make us richer. Time to fire up the barbie mate. It’s good to be an Australian – for now.

Mr. Sprott also says, “The economy is already taking a cliff dive and that is before we hit the cliff. . . . It’s hard to imagine anyone being optimistic going forward here.” If there is war in the Middle East, Sprott says, “Oil would go crazy, gold would go crazy, anything physically real would be in demand.” Greg Hunter goes One-on-One with Eric Sprott. 1. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
2. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
3. You cannot help little men by tearing down big men.
4. You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
5. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
6. You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
7. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
8. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
9. You cannot build character and courage by destroying men’s initiative and independence.
10. And you cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for themselves.
What a depressing thread!!!! Geez!!
in that us treasury yields graph going back to 1800 - does that mean we have some major war coming? Every time the US treasury yields started going up, it's because of some war, no wonder they're involved in so many of them. so depressing.
ashedefc - just based on my brief look of your posts you sound kinda like some Ron Paul dude :) definitely republican, and into gold.
As for the "no wonder science is getting such a little funding - how can you expect research & development to continue & expand in the future..." comment, you have to keep in mind that in the US the big pharma interests control R&D. They get plenty of breaks, and don't need direct funding from Govt. Judging from billions in profits, R&D is certainly gonna continue and expand.

My favourite washington post article of all times!! I'd be having a funny feeling reading this if I were heavily invested in Canadian RE reading all the 'soft landing' Canadian housing predictions right now :)
This is a very depressing and posts mostly USA focused data. Not that I think the world economy is good....Quote:

High shipping costs and shipping companies going out of business will cause this market to go into the crapper. Would this then not force businesses that have gone to Asia to pad their bottom lines to come back to North America? Giving the middle class back their jobs and putting an end to cheap imported "stuff"?

yes, the details in this article relates to US, but US dollar is the world reserve currency, & hence it affects the entire world (including Canada).
A weaker USDollar will affect everyone (almost everyone).
