Great job on the free stuff. It was meant to be!
I've gotten some great stuff from peoples garbage! Last winter I hit the motherload! x1 nearly new wooden sled (retails at about $100).
x1 fairly new sled (the kind with the steering wheel) (retails at about $70)!!!
I think I grabed a couple other things but I can't remember what they where..
Great work! I totally think useing someone elses garbage is awesome! + it also means that the garbage doesn't sit at the dump being un-used! WTG!
We have a big garbage day too here.... And we had so much fun that night.. I swear the entire neighborhood is out and about....
My best find.. a double wooden Adirondack chair. The arm was broken off...but the arm was sitting beside it. We took it, fixed the arm (1 screw), pressure washed it and painted it. Now it sits on my front porch and it is beautiful comfortable and sturdy...
Also, my husband collected all the odd and end golf clubs... came home and put together a full set! He took the best of them, laid the rest out on the curb for someone else....
Also, got a play kitchen for my kids in perfect shape....
Around here, people know and understand that people look for treasures during this week...they will leave TV outside saying "I work" etc.... so a lot of times it isn't garbage it is avoiding a trip to the thrift store!
WTG!!
WTG!!! You rock. Would have cost you TONNES to buy new or even used.
though I personally have never taken anything from the curb except cereal boxes for the pin codes or FPC's, I would have no qualms about it if I found something I needed..lol.
Here we do not have a special day like other towns have but our garbage dump has a big warehouse full of recycled stuff you can take free...(like a freecycle) and people will often place the items on the curbside with a FREE sign on it for the taking...better than going into the landfill..
Good for you!Free is my favorite pricetag :) I miss garbage amnesty day -I got some amazing stuff, and gave away tons! Our town eliminated it a few years ago,but the neighbouring areas still do it.
This year,a lady posted a list of the stuff her neighbors in a gated community had out for collection on Freecycle, and offered to buzz people in to pick it up,lol.
We too have a "share shed" at the dump and you're also allowed to salvage things from the woodpile(all wood waste inc. furniture) and the paint shed.
I second this! My friend had an awful case of bedbugs a year ago. Had to get rid of *everything*. I would personally never take anything upholstered like a couch from the curb! But that's just me!
Great finds! my mom found me this awesome desk when i was a kid, it was covered in cool *big* kid stickers :P
awesome finds !!
hubby and i go curb shopping twice a week in my area.. in the past year we have found ALOT of stuff
Laptop worth almost $1000 only thing wrong with it was a cracked screen
a very nice bedroom set that only had a few scratches on it (bought furniture markers at the dollar store and fixed them up)
a bar fridge
futon frame
kitchen chairs (ended up taking the material off and buying material for cheap at value village)
water cooler
27in tv with remote
most of my furniture is stuff from the curb or stuff that was given to me.
with 2 kids and 2 cats that like to destroy things i cant afford to buy brand new things all the time.
Bedbugs freak me out too! I even hate staying over at friend's places - the whole thing has made me paranoid...
I live in Chilliwack BC. Almost on a daily occurance, wherever you drive, people put out household items (whatever) at the curb with a sign FREE. Most stuff is NABBED in minutes!!! One man's junk is another one's treasure. And yes REDUCE. REUSE. RECYCLE!!!!
We call them "Goods Exchange Days." One year the paper had a misprint and it was referred to as "Good Sex Change Day."
Anyway,in April I picked up a nearly new Microwave about 3 blocks away from my home. I knew the woman. She came out and said there was absolutely nothing wrong with it....just renovating. WOW.I was in the market for a new one for my daycare in my basement kitchen. Also picked up a CD case and discovered it had over 40 CDs in it. We were having a garage sale that day so turned around and sold a lot of them and made at least 25.00. We have these curb side swaps 3 times a year now. Next one is in July.
WTG!! Keeping good stuff from going in the trash!
