I remember once I was shopping with my Dad and on our way into the store he bent down to pick up a penny... These two young punks started (very rudely) laughing at the old guy picking up a penny. Without even hesitating my Dad looked at them and said "Laugh all you want but I picked up 50k last year." Of course he hadnt but the look on those kids faces was priceless... And when we left the store they were still looking for change! Ha Ha

We have a rule in my house ``If you find change it belongs to you and only you.`` So when change ends up in the washing machine IT'S all mine, so it ends up in a jar and after a year I usually get to pay of the logges for the whole winter.

I had a baby a few months ago and what a neat idea when she gets a bit older (of course bets on mommy picking up all that change)....how cool to do something like this over a few years time to turn into the beginning of a college savings, or disneyland heheh.

    very cool thanks for sharing!!

I meant to post this on June 30/11 as that date is exactly 1 year since DH and I started our found jar as inspiration from reading this post. Our grand total in our found jar was $62.57. We spent it on something special for our garden that I would normally would not have spent the money on.
Our new found jar for this year has $1.05 in it already!

The best I've ever done is a $100 bill outside the SDM I use to work at, turned it in, but no one claimed it. If I find a bill in a parking lot I always give it to the store just in case the owner comes back and if they don't I ask the store to donate it.

All coins I find I use to buy smiles from my kids who are always thrilled to find money.

Interesting to know how it adds ups, thanks OP.

i know that after big events like fairs, horse races, out door flea markets, car shows or even at the beach etc etc that i have often seen people using those hand held coin/metal finders ( they remind me of weed edgers ). With the price of gold these days, wonder if those things pick up jewelry?

Wow, this thread really makes me want to pick up coins. Weird that I don't since I always dream about finding money on the street. I guess I am more like the people that drop money. I have lost $100 so far .

If the penny isn't heads up, then I flip it over and leave it for the next person. I found a $1.80 in the vacuum canister at the car wash, I was checking to see if it ever gets cleaned out and when I opened it a quarter fell out, so I kelp digging, talk about dirty money! I was going to keep that to myself, oh well
