The ground beef in the tube is the same as the ground beef in packages they sell at WM (their walmart brand I mean, in the fresh meat section)...I asked the meat supervisor about this...and if you read the label, they are made at the same plant in Alberta...the only difference he told me was that the tubes are 1lb, and the packages are 500gr, and also the tubes go on sale and not the regular packages he said.
I have used these many many times, and it is EXACTLY the smae thing, even the fat content is the same.

This is all I ever buy because they go on sale so frequently. There is no difference, and no, the beef doesn't taste "poopy" I usually buy the 2lb tubes from Food Basics or Superstore, but they're all the same.

Did any of you catch the Dr. Oz show on eating healthy?
Here's what he said about ground beef: E. coli is a fecal-borne bacteria that can grow in food and water after it contacts fecal matter. The most damaging strain is E. Coli 0157:H7, found in animal waste. Another culprit is ground beef, which is often made from animal scraps and trimmings that come closest to where feces residue resides.
EEEEEWWWW!!
Don't get me wrong....we purchase those tubes of ground beef, too....but now I'm not so sure I want to. Perhaps buying a cheap round steak and grinding it ourselves is much more healthy!

I've bought it in the tubes before, it's the exact same thing. But if they can make you believe it is poorer quality and then you buy the more expensive stuff...well that's just my opinion anyways. Right now there is a butcher shop in town that puts their ground beef on sale for $1/lb so I get it from there whenever it comes on sale.
As for the E.Coli thing, yes it's true, ground beef is made from the scraps and trimmings that they couldn't otherwise use. So are most hot dogs I believe (Which is why I am always in awe at how expensive they are lol). But I thought you could only get E.Coli if the food is not cooked properly? Or is that something else?<center><embed src="http://www.widdlytinks.com/myfamily/silhouettes/silhouettefamily.swf" flashvars="t1=The Bernard Family&pv1=0&pn1=6&px1=251.55&pf1=1&pv2=0&pn2=22&p x2=186.8&pf2=0&pv3=0&pn3=12&px3=305.85&pf3=1&pv4=1 &pn4=9&px4=278.8&pf4=0&pv5=1&pn5=3&px5=226.8&pf5=1 &pv6=0&pn6=1&px6=102.8&pf6=1&pv7=1&pn7=24&px7=317. 8&pf7=1" quality="high" wmode="transparent" name="My Family Silhouettes" allowscriptaccess="samedomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" align="middle" height="230" width="500">
