She's really stubborn and doesnt believe in talking things out, but then we end up getting into the same arguments over and over again. Our problems aren't over trivial issues.. they stem over 20 yrs. I just get so angry when she tells me to forget everything and 'get on with my life' when i cant get any closure.
I offered an olive branch again and said if she wanted to have a discussion and work things out sometime that she could give me a call. She didn't seem too keen on the idea.
I hope that if i have kids i'm better than my parents... i guess that's what everyone hopes for though.
Sorry for the rant.Last edited by rebelinu; Sun, Nov 16th, 2008 at 11:44 PM. Reason: more ranting

rebel: my mom goes on and on, ppl should sit down and talk things out.
YEAH, RIGHT.
try doing that with her. she gets all defensive and next thing you know ..your the one that's wrong and stirring up crap!
best technique for my mom..AVOIDANCE, recommended by who? our family dr believe it or not. both hers and mine.
because she literally drives you insane.

For dinner, the brats had boiled chicken with rice (I use the "broth" to make popsicles). The dog had cauliflower as her choice of vegetables, while the cat had peas (his most favourite thing in the world - did I mention he's weird?). I had leftover BBQ pork & fried rice that my parents brought from the deli section of the Asian grocery story near them (it's really really good & cheap - 4 meals for less than $10). I'm just heating up a couple of spring rolls (also from the grocery store & part of the $10) as a midnight snack. Of course, I'll be lucky to get 1/2 a spring roll, what with the ever-starved critters acting like they haven't eaten in days.
The kitty deserves a special treat. I took him down to the condo party room to keep me company while I played Scrabble with my friend. He's still somewhat shy in new situations, so he decided to sleep in my oversized purse (well, what else would I put in my purse but my cat?). He behaved himself, he even managed a tiny purr or 2, but he was happy when we called it a night. He jumped out of the purse when the elevator doors opened and dragged me home. The silly creature pulls harder on the leash than my dog.
Hope everyone has a good night.

Your mom sounds so much like mine... even if i stop talking with her she'll leave the room and you can hear her muttering still.. lol
We went to joint counselling when i was 15 and i was shocked when the counsellor said "i NEVER say this to people but i dont think you'll ever be able to really get along"

Only you andit...only YOU.
rebel: think good and hard about that. you can't bring her back once she's gone. i had nasty fallout with my dad. one week later, i'm rusing him to emerg, he had leaking aneurysm main aotra. suffered stroke during surgury spent 2.5 years in vetran's hosp til he died ;( (hubby was going thru abdominal aneurysm, and later same one as dad &triple bipass). this all happened since 2004.
i couldn't go to dad's funeral, because mom kept accusing me of STEALING his stuff. what stuff? A BLANKET AND A TEDDY BEAR. omg, i was furious. so i put in for xtra shift at worked, and worked while dad was being buried. ;(
later she finds this stuff. has family friend to call up and say she found it. NO APPOLOGY. years went by and the only thing she said at all about it was "death makes you act strange sometimes".
ya thanks mom. how about the time you told me if i got pregnant (was married at time), and had to come home to live with you i'd have to give up the baby?
now she smothers ryan. and i grit my teeth thinking, ya, sure you wouldn't let me back in your house unless i gave him up? you beotch.
i think I win this one andit. no one can top that.

Trouble brewing? Where? Where?
Hey, I take showers. I've even been known to not be alone in the shower. Get your minds out of the gutter!!!!
When I first brought my dog home from the shelter, I jumped in the shower. I was being so careful to listen to make sure she didn't get into mischief, that I got soap in my eyes. While I was concentrating on being able to see again, I suddenly felt someone licking my leg. I just about had a heartattack, before I realized it was the dog.
About a month after the dog brought the cat home (he's supposed to be her pet, but I get to do all the work), he overcame his fears and decided he loved me (he was so wild that the local "we help all animals and don't believe in euthanasia shelter", told me to put him down - I told them to go where the sun don't shine). One day while I was in the shower, I heard a thud & a scream. Poor cat jumped in the tub to see what I was up to & couldn't keep his balance in the wet tub. I had to help the poor little critter (who looked like a drowning rat) out of the tub, while trying very hard not to laugh. The silly creature hates water (& baths), but he tries it every 6 or so months, I think he just wants to reassure himself that I'll save him from the evil water.
