I do a combo for my dog & cat (dry dog food & cooked food).
Check the library for the following books (very expensive to buy, but might be able to find them in the library):
Natural Health for Dogs and Cats by Dr Pitcairn (http://www.drpitcairn.com/)
Home-prepared Dog and Cat Diet by Donald R. Strombeck, DVM PhD
There are a couple of Canadians who do diet consultations & both have e-mail lists that discuss home feeding:

To subscribe to the email lists (both have very friendly moderators & members):

To check what your dog is allergic to, start with 2 foods your dog has never eaten before, a protein & a carb (ex. fish & sweet potato) & nothing else for 8 weeks. Make sure your dog eats NOTHING but the 2 foods for that period of time, no treats with any other ingredients. If the problem clears up (is it itchy skin or sore spots?), then it's a food allergy. Once your pup is stable on the food, you can add supplements or find a kibble that might be more suitable. & yes, it's way easier to feed a human.
If you need help, feel free to pm me. I went through this with my friend & her dog. I'm lucky that my brats have cast iron stomachs for the most part. Well, what do you expect with a lab & a feline wannabe lab.

When i got the cellphone i wasnt using a landline and was paying about $100 a month on pay as you go, so it seemed like a better option at the time. Id go back to it if i wasnt locked into a contract. I'm going to just change the plan. Ive been lazy about calling up Telus though.. i hate going through all the automated stuff and then being put on hold forever.
Yeah i have about a year and a half left to the contract. Wont be as bad if i change the plan. Just want to do some research on which ones better beforehand so i dont go over my minutes

My vet finally found a food for my cat that would help his allergies and not aggrevate his urological problems or irritable bowel - Hills Zd. He's doing so much better on it but its expensive stuff. If he didnt have the other problems id seriously consider making up food for him.... do they really like sweet potato? I'll have to pass these onto my mom to try.

Hey all!
On the subject of vacuums... The best vacuum I ever used was definately a Dyson. My mom got one, and when she used it the first time on a "Clean" carpet (had been done by her old vacuum) it picked up a tank and a half full of dirt that was still on it. $500-700 dollars is a lot for a vacuum though!
We have a "walmart special" type vacuum, just the middle of the road type price one. I hate it. With a passion.
As far as steam cleaners and the like go, my Aunt has a Rainbow, like SMB mentioned, and it does cost a fortune, but nothing cleans like that thing! It totally rocks, and gets out ANYTHING.
Andit -- We got one of those new Pledge Fabric Sweepers for pet hair, and it is AMAZING. Our old kitty loves to sleep on hubby's desk chair, and it cleans it so well, it is the best thing for pet hair I've ever used. I was really suspicious of it when I took it out of the box, because it looked like it wouldn't work.
Amy -- I doubt the doctor would give him anything for the diarrea. He'll just tell you to give him starchy foods and keep up the fluid intake to keep him from getting dehydrated. If the diarrea lasts for more than 5 or 6 days, they usually give them a test to make sure it isn't being caused by bacteria in their intestines, or something else. Other than that, nothing.
The pepto might help a bit, but there are other kids anti-diarrea medicines that they sell over the counter, I think that Immodium makes one, and maybe another company. We keep a diaper overnight on Winter still too, and she's almost 4 1/2. Otherwise we'd have to buy her a new mattress every month.
NS -- It definately sounds like she's constipated. Poor thing. A lot of times, in a cat or dog that age, just a simple change in food can cause that. Just because their bowel muscles are weak. As long as it is just a spot or two of blood she should be fine. Your plan for her sounds like it will work out well. And the incontience is just something that will keep happening, no matter what you try, probably.
Newsnake -- Every time we order from Amazon.ca, we get the item within a week. Sometimes within a few days, even. However, if it is a game, that can be a different story. They are SO helpful though, and if you just click on any of the contact us type buttons, you can actually get them to call you, and they do it really quickly. Or just email them to ask, we have never had them take longer than 24 hours to get back to us.
DH orders from them all the time.
