Rose you want to see Dr. Gwizdal, she is the best. I was still in the military when I saw her, so not sure if you need to be referred. I would call her office to see if you need a referral from your family doctor to see her. If so, demand that your Doctor refers you for an appointment. I would not leave their office until they did. As women, we have to be really really really pushy when it comes to our health.
There is normally a bit of a waiting list, but she is well worth it.

Tick is so right! As women we are ignored by our Drs. I remember years ago I ran into my cousin at Safeway and we started talking. Apparently she had been having severe tummy pains and her GP just kept writing prescritpions (you know ... prescription pimp!). We had a long talk with me telling her that was not acceptable and to DEMAND that her GP send her to a specialist. She died within a year, cancer had by then spread thru her entire body and there was nothing they could do.
Sorry, don't take from those doctors, you are not feeling well, you have to push to get done what needs to be done. They seem to think its a put down on them if they can't figure out what's going on..
Sorry I feel really strong about this! I have gone thru this crap more than once with my own doctor. You know your body better than anyone else does, listen to it ... it will try to warn you something is wrong.

Lots of info out there on Jack the Ripper. A&E (before they became trashy with the all reality tv stuff) used to have some great true crime documentaries. I remember seeing a really good documentary on the Green River Killer.
My friend's then boyfriend now ex-husband (long story, enough to say that she wants nothing to do with men ever again!) used to play volleyball with Bernardo at U of T. My other friend went to that campus, so I used to hang out with her at pub nights. They were doing lots of bulding around that time - I'm convinced one of the foundations contains more than just cement.
Is your essay about the facts of each case or how it impacted & changed something in society? I know with the Bernardo case there was a lot of controversy about the media blackouts (folks were reading newspapers smuggled from the states for info on the case). It's apparently still quite controversial how to balance the public's right to knowledge against the individual's right to be treated without prejudice in a trial.
Sounds like a fun course. Will you share your essay with us? It sounds neat.

I know Bernardos family owned a piano store in the next town over from me. I did a presentatio on Bernados case last semester with my Forensics course.
This is what we need to have in it.
Please include the following:
1. a thesis statement. ex., Robert Picton is Canada's worst serial killer.
2. History of the person you are doing
3. Demographics of the case: where did crimes occur, time-line of events.
4. Who were the victims?
5. What was the killer's MO (Modus Operandi) and Signature?
6. What was the outcome of the case?
7. Where do things stand today?
8. What's your opinion of the investigation/perpetrator?

Rose - glad to hear your Mom's doing well. As for you, def try to get to a good Dr, as per Tick's advice.
I'm really lucky now, I have a good family Dr. I think part of the reason she listens is that I was one of her first patients when she started & I had just had the transplant, so I knew more than she did & she was actually willing to listen to me & learn (I actually offered to give her a crib sheet on what to look for in dealing with kidney issues & she was thrilled).
My friend's fam Dr, on the other hand, kept wanting to put her on anti-depressants when her thyroid was making her hyper. Instead of exploring other options, her Dr kept trying to give her a prescription. & when she was exhausted as a result of the thyroid playing up, the Dr suggested stress leave? For a physical issue????
I think a lot of times, Drs see patients with issues they know nothing about & don't know where to start to get answers, so they dismiss the issues or treat them as if they were something else.

Well, with Bernardo, there's always been the speculation that the investigation was not as thorough as it should have been (I'm not the only one convinced Bernardo killed Elizabeth Bain). The good thing that came out of it is that diff police forces now have to compare notes, since that's the reason his rampage went on as long as it did.
Have you decided which one you want to do?
On a diff note - have you read any of Max Haines' books? It's neat in a creepy kinda way to read about killers in your own backyard.

Rose -- If Tick has a great doctor in your area, you should definately try to get an appointment with her! Like she said, call her office and ask if you can see her directly, and if not, go in to your GP and DEMAND that you get a referral. Do not take no for an answer. Say something along the lines of.. 'I know my own body, and I want to see a specialist who can give me some options outside of birth control pills'.
It is hard to do the first time, but after that its a breeze! LOL
You could get diagnosed with Dysmenorrhea, like Ricki said, but that is kinda like getting diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.. It is just putting a name to the fact that you have "pain of unknown origin". They tend to put Dysmennorrheic patients on something called NSAID drugs (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) but be careful with that.. they can relieve the pain you are currently having but have long-term side effects.
I would try to see the specialist, and ask if you can be evaluated for PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and any other abnormalities of the uterus and ovaries. PCOS patients tend to have an extreme amount of pain before, during and after their periods.
Make sure you are taking a really good multivitamin, as well as some kind of omega-3 vitamin. Lots of correlation between lack of fatty acids and dysmenorrhea.

wow, what a great paper. i did a class at college called hunting humans, just like that. our prof wrote a book same name.
i personally find the killers who are very discerning, its makes a great story. also remember that sometimes information can be harder to find in canadian murders. a more modern murderer will have more documentation(even 100-125 years ago) based on fact and not lore, also because of testing, media. good luck with the paper.
