Ok so I was wrong again!!
Following World War II, in a 1948 referendum, a narrow majority of Newfoundland citizens voted to join Confederation and, on March 31, 1949, Newfoundland became Canada's tenth and final province. In 2001 it was officially renamed Newfoundland and Labrador.

I read a lot about it already after I asked you -LOL! I'm always willing to learn more, so I'm gonna read this tonight.
Have to get my son to an appt and my daughter to her soccer scrimmage where I have to stay. Then I'm gonna come home and make dinner. Can you guess what we're having???
POUTINE!!!
But it won't be as good, I know. I'm going to make the fries homemade, then I have a brown gravy mix, and mozzarella cheese sticks that I will cut up. I read somewhere that this will be the closest I can get to the squeaky texture. Won't be the same, I know, but since I haven't had the real thing....
jodew71 very kindly offered to send me some poutine gravy, but I'm not waiting!!
I'll let you know how it turned out later.
PS-the wikpedia link you just added is what I read!

RQ,
Homemade fries are actually AWESOMER! My husband and I prefer it with that! Then heat up your gravy and pour it over the mozza so it will melt it down some...I like mine really melted so I always toss my plate after it's made up into the microwave for about 45 seconds to melt it down even more...
My husband isn't feeling well so I don't think he could stomach a poutine tonight so perhaps we'll wait for another night
The Acadian literature is very interesting...there was a documentary on tv the other night and my husband is american from Syracuse, NY and he was just amazed at what my people went through...in the documentary they said that what was done to the Acadians is the first case of ethnic cleansing...sad eh? We were the first people that were considered to be self-sufficient - to grow our own food, take care of ourselves, didn't rely on any assistance or anyone else and were able to completely live on our own. Anyways, Shaun thought it was very interesting and glad he had watched it...
Enjoy your first poutine!
