I fined it funny boy, I grew up in Cambridge and I have no problems understanding da Newfies. Now da French here can be a different ting.
So many of me buddies still live up der in Cambridge. When I moved to T.O. I was always talking about me buddies and everyone there wanted to know who this Buddy was and how long we had been dating. LOL
The first time I went to Newfoundland I was the translater. The EX had no idea what they were saying and I was talking up a storm with the people. It was so funny, he would look at me and say how can you understand them? LOL
After working and living in T.O for 10 years, I can understand most people.

ns- good luck with Ryan, I went through this kind of thing with my daughters and it is very frustrating. The other parents never seem to think there is a problem

i grew up on the west coast of newfoundland and there many mostly french speaking people in my area. when i moved to st.johns i thought people were joking. a lot of newfoundlanders sounded like the movie far and away and i thought it was a funny. it took a little getting used to. on st patricks day i met a guy named saemus and i thought it was a pick up line. it wasn't! this was his name. i was used to benoit and chaisson.we had our own jokes. ex. sentence. throw the baby down the stairs, some candy. throw some candy down the stairs to the baby.
all of nfld is not the the same, my family was more nfld-french. capebreton or novia scotian i think originally

Yeah! I love it! And he cleans house and does dishes too! I'm spoiled! He knows I've had a pretty rough life so I think he's trying to make things better for me because of that. I truly am blessed to have him! But, then again, he DOES have a good wife too!!!
Shaun loves to take his cook books out and read them and try things! I'm the one that's not into trying new dishes. He also loves to bake and makes a mean cheesecake from scratch and a delicious cream cheese carrot cake! Okay, I must stop talking about all this food!
Well, have to go down the hill to check the blood sugar of one of my clients. Then we're soon off to the doctor.
See you guys later!
