Sorry to hear about all the in-law problems. It really could be far worse, at least you got the good end of the deal (in-laws could be great and spouse could leave something to be desired).
I almost went down that path a few years back, was dating a decent enough fellow. It wasn't until I turned down a couple of romantic dinners with him to first stay at home with his mom and play cards and then to go out to a play with his aunt, that I realized I was dating him cause I was in love with his family. Unfortunately, I had more in common with them than with him, so I broke it off to be fair to him.
I'm lucky in that I chose to be a spinster forever (and proud of it). ;-)
Good luck to all with the in-laws issues.

I had Thanksgiving dinner tonight at my parents and a friend of the family (with no family left) and a friend of hers who also is alone (they usually come for dinner on the major holidays). And, of course, the critters. The cat decided to be anti-social, but the dog overcompensated for him. We had a non-traditional dinner - where my parents come from (Eastern Europe) Thanksgiving isn't celebrated. We had cabbage rolls, roast pork, sauerkraut, roast potatoes, broiled carrots Cajun-style (in with the roast and burnt black), and steamed cauliflower. My mom also managed to bake 3 cakes, one chocolate, the other 2 a sort of lemon-raisin bundt cake. I had attempted to bake a pear cobbler the night before, but in the middle of baking, the dog decided she had to use the facilities right away. Between turning the oven off and then on again, I managed to make a Cajun-style (burnt black) cobbler that even my "I will eat dirt cause I'm always hungry" dog turned her nose up at.
I go for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow at my friend's place - turkey, stuffing, squash, sweet potato, green beans, etc. And I'm taking over one of the bundt cakes. Yes, I am a spoiled brat.
Monday I'm having a quiet lunch with the critters and my parents at my place (it's a weekly occurence), since that's what I'm most grateful for.
Happy Thanksgiving to the Canadians, and hopefully the Americans will overindulge to feel more Canadian this weekend (I'm sure I'm not the only one willing to overdo it on US Thanksgiving).

All this talk of food is making me sooooooo hungry! Can't wait for the holidays. Not sure which one we'll have it for but whatever holiday we have the kids home we'll have brisket omg DH makes a brisket that is out of this world! Scored a brisket last year for $16 couldn't flipping believe it lol the holiday b4 that we'd been so proud we'd found one for $20. Its so worth it even when we have to pay full price tho not even sure I'd take prime rib over hubbies brisket and I love prime rib.
that was the only thing my step monster was good for far as I could see, she did make a dam good prime rib but I had a hell of a time eating anything that woman fixed. She was a total pig, their house was so filthy I never wanted to even sit on the furniture and the kitchen should of been condemned. The last 10-15 yrs she wouldn't let me near dad tho so never realized it got as bad as it did. Probably 20 yrs of filth from step sisters description unbelieveable. Growing up my dad would
at my mom for even a cupboard door left open, never could understand how he could stand living in the pigpen. After she died and my step sister took dad in the landlords tried to sue over the state of the house. The oven didn't work. There was no running water for whatever reason and there was multilayers of dirt (years worth) on everything. My stepsister got a lawyer and told him he failed to maintain or inspect his property that if he continued they'd sue him. They were both alcoholics tho and she kept me away as much as possible as well as her own daughter so no one knew except my step brother and guess he was used to it.
Am so sorry so many of you are having such a rough time over your holiday due to in laws. Amy your in laws sound like my sister she invites you to dinner at 6pm and you don't end up eating until 8 or 9.
NS so sorry to hear about your brother in law. Will pray for him.
have a good nite everyone I'm off to bed been a rough day.

My hubby loves potatoe stuffing. I found an old 1930's? or earlier, recipe for sweet potatoe stuffing. it rocks
so do it already. still nothing in my inbox and your driving me nuts talking about it.
that's ONE.
that first meal sure sounds alot like..THANKSGIVING dinner, whether u celebrate it or not. ya got tonnes of food, family, grateful. yup. that's thanksgiving dinner. poor amycrows never had the diiner, the food or anything to be grateful for. damn inlaws. i know if it was me, i'd be speaking up and telling them exactly how i feel. That they didn't bother with me til they wanted something, they leave ya hanging in the lurch..they remember the kids when they have something to show off.. oh ya, i'd be giving em a big chunk of my mind, or completely avoiding them. let them ruin their credit. it's theirs to ruin. i am sending you tons of virtual hugs amy. i hope you can focus on the kids and your hubby this holiday and let go of all that other toxic crap. this will cheer you up. (mabye). i have to deal with my mother today. for several hours. ok. now let me give you a bit of history. this is a woman that talks superloud and never shutsup. she will talk the same stuff over and over you heard 20 years ago. you can't get a word in edgewise (smartass, of course that's where i gets it from). she had breast cancer 25+ years ago, and only has stopped going on about that a couple years ago. my bro and his gf cant' stand to be in the house 2 mins. my mom is like, you know your brother always in a rush, can't tell him nothing, doesn't want to hear it. but she can't for the life of her figure out why! we visited one day, my DH (dear) left with his head spinning. his bloodpressure went thru the roof just from listening to her going-ons. now she never complains about anything but she goes on and on about every little pain, and annoyance healthwise. or she'll detail what she did all day, right from the laundry to her last crap. if you hear something once, you will hear it a dozen times b4 the day is over. she's 80, and if i say anything, "oh lets see what you'll be like when your my age". to which i now answer, "i told ryan to shoot me if i drive him nuts". she just laffs and says..he wouldn't do that. ya right mom...this is why no one owns guns in the house. and it's not even her age. she has always been like that. my dad had a gambling problem. do ya think he spent 36 hours straight at the casino because the sound of all them slot machines going off was a lot quieter? me thinks so!

the bitterness is over and im off today to my sisters for a sane family dinner celebrating my niece's 14th birthday. with my aeroplan points i ordered her a mall card for $100 so she will be super duper happy with us and they deserve it. she's busting her butt already in the first yr of high school.
even this morning my hubby woke up and said to me, why r things with ur family so normal...my parents are messed up? better from his mouth than mine
