They can't evict you for that but they can evict you if they want to move in. However, I'm pretty sure they have to go legal routes (through the tribunal) in order to get an order to vacate the premise. You can then fight that. But I don't think they can't just "tell you". Call the tribunal. I always found them to be super helpful.

They can't kick you out. You can tell them that you'll fix the issues yourself, but you'll send them a bill for it. In our old apartment the patio doors froze shut for the winter from the condensation (fire hazzard - 3rd floor) and we had mold growing inside the walled frame around it. Hubby tore the whole frame apart, cleaned it out, filled it with spray insulation, closed it up and painted it. In our yearly inspection, they were impressed with the clean job and thanked us (we had awesome supers). We just couldn't wait for them to fix it, we just did it. Hopefully they'll see what good tenants you are and actually work with you instead of being resistant.
