You're right. There's this expert that has been communicating with the media just explaining how things really are and today he got ordered by people higher up than his boss to shut the f*ck up and let media relations handle it or else he'll lose his job. It's bad when they won't let a nuclear engineer talk about what's going on.

Don't get me wrong Maggie, I'm the ever optimist and 100% pro-nuke, but these aren't Candu reactors and they've just had their third hydrogen explosion at three different plants, and they have no way of knowing whether it has compromised the reactor's containment area or not. Radiation levels increased, but have now subsided. It is true that these levels are still WELL BELOW critical levels, but the fact that they rose is enough for concern. They haven't been able to keep the reactors totally covered, even with them pumping sea water in, which means they are melting. The pressure has subsided, which is also a good sign, wind from the NNW is good for Japan, not so good for the rest of the Pacific. Hopefully all of the nuclear experts that are being flown in can deal with the situation, but this is far from alright!
The most unfortunate thing is that this is totally taking away from the needs of the Japanese people who require aid so much at this time. Even being the economic titan that they are, people cannot eat or drink yen!
Sorry for going on like this Maggie, this shouldn't be the place to rave.
Enjoy your evening everyone, sorry again, but don't forget,
Life is GRAND!!!!! Enjoy every day as if it were your last!

Yeah, but explain that to my thyroid. I have no clue how it happened as I never did any iodinozations myself. In my day-to-day job of performing radioimmunoassays for 6 months I was exposed to very low levels of radiation (except for that one mystery reading) yet I managed to get thyroid cancer from it.

I'm not sure if I misunderstood or if you did. I'm fine and I had a great doctor. She figured out the problem and took out the whole gland before it got anywhere else.
I am very sorry for my rant. I just keep imagining how hard it is for survivors just trying to get through today's challenges when there's no guarantee what tomorrow will bring.Just because something isn't right for YOU doesn't mean it's wrong.

If they were melting you'd know it. They are just boiling the water off faster than water could get in. It's a race to get the reactor's temp down to a point where they stop boiling the water off. At one point it wasn't as if the reactors were getting hotter, it's that they weren't cooling off fast enough to stay ahead of boiling the water off. It was for a time like taking 10 steps forward but 9 back, then 9 forward then 11 back. Now it appears to be back to 10 forward and 9 back. I haven't paid much attention all day therefore I don't know who these dead workers or what they were doing or wearing. As fore the concern for the radiation levels it was because they did rise for a moment but they did drop back down.Last edited by 6ffightr9; Mon, Mar 14th, 2011 at 10:24 PM.
