Call it continuing fallout from the global recession, but in 2011 stay-at-home moms’ estimated wages dropped. This year, results indicate that stay-at-home moms would earn a base salary of $36,968 plus $78,464 in overtime, totaling $115,432–down $2,424 from last year’s estimation of $117,856.
In the tenth annual Mom Salary Survey, researchers examined 6,616 mothers and attempted to value their work by breaking down motherly duties into 10 separate titles: Day Care Center Teacher, CEO, Psychologist, Cook, Housekeeper, Laundry Machine Operator, Computer Operator, Facilities Manager, Janitor and Van Driver.

My oldest is 9 and to teach him the value of work and money he has jobs to do around the house, and if he does them he then get's paid a certain amount for each job. So when he want's something we think is not a neccessity he has to buy it with his own money he earned. We are staring to do the same thing with are 6 year old.

That's awesome it works out so well for you!
I did tons of volunteering at our son's school - it was a bilingual English/Ukrainian - so aside from class/mother kind of help, there were always cultural and religious events to help out with. Plus, one year I taught (volunteer) a computer class with another mom.
About the money and being a SAHM - sure, of course I missed the money (and still do!), my husband is in the trades and his work wasn't always stable, especially when our son was young - plus he often worked away from where we were sometimes weeks at a time.
As for justifying your spending to your husband - uh, oh - sorry, but I don't like that. That has never, ever happaned with us. Any money brought into the house is OUR money, and each of us spends it as we see fit. He trusts me to not bee to frivolous, but I do the accounts so I know what I can get away with, lol!

We never paid for chores - everyone who lives here helps to keep the household going!
Allowance only started when he was 10, I think - it was minimal, and it was for him to do with what he wanted. We didn't want allowance tied to anything; I think kids need spending money 'just because'.
But I know lots of families who pay for chores, and some pay for grades too (don't get me started on that one, lol!).
