Don't a lot of dentist offices do that when opening or looking for new patients?

lots of dental offices are doing it, for new patients that also have a complete exam performed.

Hmm, that would be awesome but here in ol Newfoundland I'm sure the offices would be over run with hideously yellowed, cracking and nicotine stained teeth from all the freaks. I love it here but there's a lot of nasty teeth. :/ The dentists wouldn't have enough time in the day!!!! lol My school insurance only covers the cost of the cleaning but I'll ask about the whitening when I go for my next one ^^

good deal if you have insurance. otherwise a cleaning and checkup can be very expensive depending on the dentist. my dentist charges $25 per unit time of 15 mins for a cleaning and it takes about a hour or so. plus another $150 for the basic exam and xrays.
also be prepared to max out your insurance allotment on cleanings if you encounter an unscrupulous practice. they'll reel you in with the "freebie", take their sweet time cleaning your teeth, and get you/your insurance to foot the bill.
