I see you have a few places on 4th street... don't forget mercato! I used to work at earls and met Noble when he was employed with them designing menus and stuff. Personally I didn't think his recipes were that great, but I know someone who works at NOtaBLE and they seem to love it.

Shibuya Izakaya is a sushi restaurant but it's not all you can eat. Dishes range from $10+ or sushi rolls from around $5+. They have a special from Monday to Wednesday for $1.25 fresh oysters with ponzu sauce garnished with lime and tabasco sauce.

Bubblemania is next door. Though their bubbletea aka bbt sucks, they have cheap wings. Regular price is .37cents and they have a happy hour which is from 2-5pm for .27cents. If you take it to-go, it's .67cents. With a range of wing(minimum 10 wings per order/flavour) flavours from salt and pepper to spicy honey(my fav). They have other food as well, crepes, fried noodles, fried rice, fried scallops, fruit and veggie platters, etc.
Both cafe/restaurants are usually busy and hard to get parking in the parking lot so a lot of people park on the street. best to check their websites for more information.

Ruth Chris' Steakhouse
294 9th Avenue Southeast
Calgary, AB T2G 0P5
(403) 246-3636
If you feel like splurging this downtown steakhouse is too die for. I've never had such a soft, juicy, tender steak as I experienced here. Their website doesn't show a pricelist but expect it to be expensive. Their steaks don't come with sides so you have to order them on their own which is family size portion. I went with 3 people and 3 sides were good enough for us. Your pocket will be empty but your stomach will be full lol I hope..
Peter's Drive-in
219 16 Ave
Calgary, AB T2E 1J9
(403) 277-2747
Isn't it an iconic Calgary landmark? Though I haven't ate the burgers and fries, the lineups are always crazy looong. I have had their milkshakes and they come in these huge paper cups. Didn't think I could finish it but I surely did. You can choose upto 3 flavours in your milkshake.
FIVE GUYS Burgers and Fries
33 Heritage Meadows Way
Calgary, AB
(403) 252-3373
Always has fresh, never frozen patties. The standard burger comes with 2 beef patties. You can choose what toppings you want all for FREE. The drinks come with free refills and fries come regular or cajun style. There fries are also fresh. They cut their fries then soak them in water so it isn't as starchy. It's not a peanut free environment and they have a sign to warn you at the door. You can have some free peanuts while you're eating your burgers and fries. They're ontop of the garbage pails in a carboard box.
If you feel like Asian food...
Sun's BBQ
1423 Centre Street North
Calgary, AB
(403) 230-8890
has a wide range of dishes to choose from. Bbq pork, cha sieu pork, soya sauce chicken, steamed chicken that come with a delicious green onion/oil sauce, and duck. You can get those on their own or as a combo with rice or noodles and soup. Also a range of fried rice, fried noodle, noodle soups, etc. Don't expect spectacular service. It's very busy all day especially on weekends, expect yourself to be waiting.
Pebblestreet (in the Pacific Place aka T&T plaza) is another Hong Kong style cafe like Sun's BBQ. They both serve hot tea in plastic cups. Very similar food because it's the same owner. Great food but again don't expect good service.
There's also 3 bubble stores by T&T, the grocery store. Ten Ren's typically has better prices then Bubblelicious. Both are good, tapioca is always soft and chewy. Of course you can opt for jelly or pudding. Bubblelicious also lets you chose from big pearls(aka tapioca) or small pearls. There's a 3rd one that opened which also serves crepes but I haven't tried it yet.

136 Eau Claire Market,
Calgary, AB
(403) 290-1433.
Offers a wide selection of sushi, maki rolls, hand rolls, sashimi, sushi boats, raw oysters, beef tataki. I like the service here. They have 2 locations now.
Seoul Korean BBQ
4336 Macleod Trail Southwest
Calgary, AB
(403) 243-7970
They have some all you can eat days. It's best to call in for what days because I'm not sure. They have some combinations picked out for you which is what I go for. You can either cook the raw meats yourself or have the chefs at the back cook it for you. Your meal comes with little vegetable dishes like kimchi, bean sprouts, macaroni salad and a couple other little dishes, like 6 of them. Expect yourself to smell like cooked food when leaving the joint. How better could you smell!! This place is usually busy but there isn't a wait since the space is pretty big. The bill comes with these little milky drinks. I love Korean bbq!
All this food talk has made me hungry...I hope you guys will try out these places and let me know what you think! We need to spice up this Calgary forum!!

As a passionate lover of food, may I suggest:
Double Zero Pizza - 751 4th Street SW
Neopolitan style pizzeria. Delish.
Dragon Pearl Restaurant - 1223a 9th Ave SE
The best Chinese food in the city by a long shot.
The Coup and Meet - 924 17 Ave SW
Creative vegetarian cuisine in a city void of non-meat options. Fabulous for brunch.
The Ranche at Fish Creek Park
Wonderful for brunch and a great escape from the hussle and bussle without travelling too far.
crazyweed kitchen - 1600 Railway Ave, Canmore
Amazing fusion menu with unique twists on everyday classics. Why just this past weekend I had vegetarian moussaka made with lentils and yogurt. To die for.
Alloy - 220 42 Ave SE
Fun urban atmosphere with a cool west coast vibe. Extensive menu with creative fusion cusine. Love it.
And I know it's already been mentioned, but...
Rouge - 1240 8th Ave SE
This is the place to go in Calgary. I highly recommend ordering a chef's tasting and settling in for an amazing evening of surprises. If you visit in the summer or fall, you'll likely be served fresh veggies from the on site garden. The services is excellent, food of the best I've ever had in Calgary and the Cross House is a perfect setting. You must go.
I can add more recommendations!Last edited by shennig; Tue, Jun 28th, 2011 at 05:06 PM.
