I personally do not use coupons if I do not have a need for the item.
For high value ones, I try to put them up for trade so that someone else can use..
You have to make sure to give over a month for trade though between trade finalizing and Canada Post delivering..

If it's something I use on a regular basis and will need to buy again soon, I will use it to get the little bit of money off. Some is better than none!
Or I will just drop it on the shelf in the store for someone else to use.
Or if there is time for the mail, I will ROAK them to someone.

If its something I know I will use, I will use them on a reg priced item IF it means I will get them cheaper than the regular sales prices (because I couldnt use the coupon on the sale price, as its expired but why pay more, I can buy without coupons)
I go to SCer meetups and we put all of our soon to expire coupons in an envelope and pass it around the table for people to take what they need for free
If they are still in my coupon folder with a couple of days left on them and I haven't traded/used/given them to friends / whatever else, I place them with items when I am in store and hope they are used that way.
And if not, some go to the cat's play box since Quincy likes to shred paper

I try and raok my expiries before they expire, although this month im going to have a lot of left overs, DD loves to play "store" though, she loves my expired coupons.
I heard somewhere about military bases are aloud to use coupons up to 6 months after they expire or something, although I'm not sure if that was an american thing or not.Niagara Falls for New years!!! YIPPY!!!!!

I usually just leave them on the shelves at stores, next to the products.
Someone else here does it too, I found a really great coupon the last time I was out.

Generally if they are REALLY good ones I try to use them up and IF I absolutely can't I will put them next to the items in store (as it would be really close to expiry before I would give them up lol)...but if it is something that I wont use or have way too many of and there is at least 2 weeks left before expiry, I usually will drop off a bunch at the local food bank, and at the family service center, for them to use / have available to clients.

What a nice idea Billie, donating them to a food bank!
I usually toss them after they've expired, but I like some of the "pay it forward" ideas much better!!

im going to try and start looking through mine.. and doing a FF train .. or a RAOK.. it takes a bit of work. but if someone else can benefit. y not
