I bought a couple chalkboard like things last week for a shower I am hosting. They were $1.25 and with all the spring wedding stuff.
I saw the seen on tv magnetic mesh screen doors for $3.
Oh boy, have I EVER seen these monstrosities! "Creepy" is an understatement and a compliment to the most mind-shattering thing I have ever seen in a dollar store. Back in February I made a Facebook post about it that was received well, which sums up my level of ... unsettlement (a word I made up for usage here) ... about the whole thing.

hahaha, bomb shelter corn! We'd all be fighting over it in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, but for now, we're lol'ing at it super hard, and in response, it just grows ever more neon in defiance.

I bought Angry birds Rio blankets last week. They are too big for loot bags, but you might consider one for your son. Also earlier this year I bought a bunch of National Geographic Angry birds books, but I haven't seen them in a while. They might still have them in stores with the lesser traffic.
