I remember reading a list of reasons to be grateful, probably an email forward, years ago, that said things like:
- when I can't find a parking spot near the store and have to walk almost a whole city block to get there, I am thankful that I have strong legs to carry me;
- when my pants get too tight and I grumble that I need to lose ten pounds, I am thankful that I live in a part of the world where food is plentiful, and that I can afford to feed myself to surfeit;
etc.
I wish I had kept a copy of it; I weighed myself today and was horrified by what the scale told me (I even checked to see if it was accurate by weighing something else...unfortunately, it was).
As unhappy as the number made me, since I need to immediately start working on losing at least 30 pounds, today I am thankful that I am as healthy and fit as I am, because there are millions of people who would give their right arms to have only 30 pounds to lose, or who wish they could afford to eat half as much as I do (even if I didn't realize I was doing it!).
And I'm thankful I got on the scale - I knew my weight was climbing, but not how much or how quickly, and now I can try to reverse the trend so that I don't get sick.
I think I'll have to print this out and put it in my wallet for those days I don't feel like having salad, LOL.

screamy, that's the BEST attitude to have!
OO, I found it:
I am thankful:
For the wife
Who says it's hot dogs tonight
Because she is home with me
And not out with someone else.
For the husband
Who is on the sofa
Being a couch potato
Because he is home with me
And not out at the bars.
For the teenager
Who is complaining about doing dishes
Because it means she is at home,
Not on the streets.
For the taxes I pay
Because it means
I am employed.
For the mess to clean after a party
Because it means I have
Been surrounded by friends
For the clothes that fit a little too snug
Because it means
I have enough to eat.
For my shadow that watches me work
Because it means
I am out in the sunshine.
For a lawn that needs mowing,
Windows that need cleaning,
And gutters that need fixing
Because it means I have a home.
For all the complaining
I hear about the government
Because it means
We have freedom of speech.
For the parking spot
I find at the far end of the parking lot
Because it means
I am capable of walking,
And I have been blessed with transportation.
For my huge heating bill
Because it means
I am warm.
For the lady behind me in church
Who sings off key
Because it means I can hear.
For the pile of laundry and ironing
Because it means
I have clothes to wear.
For weariness and aching muscles
At the end of the day
Because it means I have been
Capable of working.
For the alarm that goes off
In the early morning hours
Because it means
I am alive.
And finally, for too much e-mail
Because it means
I have friend who is thinking of me.

I am thankful the 3 lemon pies and the chocolate pie I made this morning turned out ok - just have to wait for the filling to set.

This is a week when I am thankful for so many things but I'll post two things that always lift me up - the help of other SCers to make donations happen.
So Smurf generously gifted me some of those amazing $10 Heinz coupons and some Tampax (those will be used later) and they arrived in time that the formula on sale at my close grocery store was still there after 6 days (unbelievable) as it was marked down 50% so with the coupons I could afford to buy 4 cans to donate for about $10.
Thanks smurf!!!
Recently I had a new adoptee and I sent her an envelope of coupons. Again, a really wonderful surprise and RAOK - she sent me some coupons back for homeless drop-in.
So I was able to get these toothpaste to donate. They were clearing these out at Walmart so they were marked $1.61 and the coupons were a $1.50. Hurrah. I was able to buy 4 of these too.
Thanks CatWoman
