Random Act of Mars
I am sorry if this ends up being posted in the wrong section. I also want everyone to know before reading this..that this is written only as a reflection of what I see and how it impacted me personally.
Over the past couple of weeks I have read quite a few brags about the people who devote there time and money to bring comfort to those in need. i.e: the food bank, youth organizations, pet shelters..you name it I have read it. It has touched me greatly to see how many people, even those who might themselves be struggling, reach out to their fellow SC'ers, as well as those in their local communities.
Reading all these great "brags" helped me to move out of the bubble of self pity I had been in and served as a reminder that I could do things to help others. even though I was feeling like I couldn't. In the end I realized how easy it could actually be and without any cost to myself.
After reading a post about a local charity in need of donations, I recalled that I had seen some beauty products in the clearance bins of my local stores. I knew I also had some coupons left that could be used towards reducing the cost of these items. I also had a collection of bottles that I could exchange for cash to cover the expense of HST etc.. so off I went.
I headed for one store first to buy some makeup and ended up with 6 lip glosses, one foundation and two bottles of dawn dish soap. I figured that even people who frequent the food bank need to clean their dishes.
I then went to another store where I did not find what I was looking for initially but discovered some Gillette Body Wash and Shampoo in the clearance bin. I just happened to have 1 coupon to save $5 on three Gillette items which I used towards this. I got 2 bottles of shampoo and 1 bottle of body wash and the coupon even covered part of the HST on the three items.
When I got to the cash there was a woman with her daughter in front of me. Laid out amongst their purchases was a Mars Bar. I went into my coupons and handed them my solitary Random Act of Mars coupon. I figured I didn't really need the candy bar and this act gave me more pleasure than any of the other purchases I made that day had.
The total I spent on these items was $2.20 but the feeling I got from knowing I was able to give back, even in a small way, was immeasurable.
As I said, I now know how easy it is to be able to give back thanks to the example being set by my fellow SC'ers.
Keep up the great work!

Loved reading this =) thanks so much for sharing. Giving the free stuff to others is almost better than getting the free stuff ourselves =)

way to get into the spirit, it's amazing how much we can impact others at such a small cost to ourselves. Way to go!
