Thanks Patty Smyth. I laughed and laughed!!!
Your timing is perfect. I had a bad week and needed some relief.
In defense of cashiers, this one was NOT trained properly. Back in the day, I worked at Loblaws. Every spring or fall, we got "tested" on the new fruits and veggies that were in season. So, those fruits and veggies thatt were "exotic" (e.g. ugly fruit, mangosteen. lychee, dragon fruit, blood orange), were not unfamiliar to us.
Sometimes SCs don't shop at Loblaws because of the high prices. But at least Loblaws had a screen where the cashiers could look up the picture if they were unsure of the fruit or vegetable.
Once, a customer told me that the herb in front of me was parsley. It was actually lemon grass - much more expensive. He was trying to get a deal.
I agree some cashiers need retraining or just to be escorted to the door.
Thanks soooo much for the laugh - I needed it!

Thanks Patty! I needed the laugh. The original post was mine.
You have no idea how much my life has changed since that post. Only one Smartcanucker knows and she has been an angel.
Have not had much time for Smartcanucks since then but I hope to get back in the future.
The final irony is that my 16 year old now works at that store.
Thanks for the laugh and the memory.

Like a zombie rising from the grave, the notorious "Romaine isn't lettuce!" coupon is back!!!
I found the English version with Dec.31 '12 expiry this past weekend. I was so flustered when I found it that I forgot where I found it.Okay, I think it was at a PriceSmart in Metro Vancouver.
If you are doing this...about what the heck this is all about, then go to post #1 of this thread and find a link to the one and only original thread by smartmama from 2010. Just for a laugh!
