Prayers for Kosmo the cat
Kosmo the cat, it was discovered today has a grapefruit sized tumor in his abdomen. I had thought earlier last month that somethign didn't feel right in his belly, so I took him to the vet today. It turns out I was correct.
It went from being the size of a walnut to the size of a grapefruit in less than a month.
The vet is going to take him into surgery tomorrow. He is a young cat (5 years old) and normally healthy, a people cat. She feels that surgery will give him a chance at living out many more years. She is going to open him up, so far it looks like it isn't attached to anything, but it may be attached to his spleen or intestines. If so then she is going to put him to sleep. Hopefully she is able to get out the mass, and there aren't any areas affected.
I've been crying and my husband has been crying, he is our cat child.
It's been a really bad year for us so far, we've lost two family members to cancer, our apartment seems to be falling apart around us, I don't know if or where I will have a job, now our kitty is a very sick little kitty.
He never showed any signs of being sick, he has been eating and drinking, pooping and peeing, playing around. I honestly thought it was a furball or something, until I noticed yesturday it was quite large.
UPDATE...UPDATE...
<hr style="color: rgb(227, 227, 227); background-color: rgb(227, 227, 227);" size="1"> Kosmo is home!!!!!
They were able to remove the mass, it was two and a half inches by 2 and a quater inches big. It was self contained, not involved with any of organs. It was however involved with some of his muscles. So they had to stretch his muscles and he has quite a few stitches in. He still has an arm catheter in, just in case we need to give him some pain meds in the night, he also has a pain med patch on for the next five days.
Tomorrow he goes into the vet to get the catheter taken out and for a check-up.
Currently he is roaming around the apartment, we are keeping him out of the bedroom, as there are too many high things he can jump on. So one of us is going to sleep out in the living room for the next three days. He's already pooped and peed. We've been feeding him wet food, teaspoons at a time.
The other two cats are staying at a neighbours apartment for two weeks while he recovers (they play fight too hard, so they need to be seperate from Kosmo until his muscles heal more).
I am so thankful.
They won't know what caused the mass until next week, it will be sent off to the lab on monday. Once we know that, we will know what steps to take, like if it is something that will come back again, or if it was just a one time thing. For the time being we have our kitty back.
He is currently laying down in a large shoe box that I put a worn shirt in, he loves to sleep in shoe boxes.
I am overjoyed. Thank you everyone.
He has a recovery to go through, but he is here.
Update 3
He is eating, and drinking, peeing, but so far he's only pooped once. So I will continue monitoring that. We had to get a cone for his head because he liked to like the bitter spray which is supposed to deter licking.
He is acting like he used to. Although last night he would walk around the bed bang me in the head with his cone, and then walk over to hubby and bang him in the head with his cone until he woke up. This happened every two hours, until about 7am when he laid down in between us and slept.
