has anyone used those $5 ice cream coupons at walmart yet? are they putting in the maximum $5 value or just however much the item is? or does it depend on the cashier/store?

I was going to ask the same thing. The coupon is up to $5, not $5 off like the Chapman ones. Some Walmarts are taking $5 off even though ice cream costs less. I didn't read this in the coupon policy so YMMV at certain stores.
Ideally, I would like to use it at the Decarie one because most of them speak english.
ditto. i think i will try at that stpre tpdau. but i'll probably ask at the CS desk first rather than hold up the line at checkout. hopefully i get a good manager! i got the BEST manager on wednesday morning. too bad i forgot his name.
i'll let you know how i go!
every time i go it's someone different!
walmart decarie shop = success!
i was told by two customer service reps that the new policy is to put in the maximum value stated on the coupon. unfortunately the cashiers have no idea about the new policy (csr to cashier: "did you read the new coupon policy?" cashier: "no. how long have we had it?" :icon_scratch:)
the csrs at the decarie are generally really great (particularly the indian girls who are extra, super sweet and nice), as is the morning manager (found out his name is ryan. i'm just assuming he's the morning manager. i've only seen him once). most, if not all, of the csrs and managers know that overages are allowed and are to be carried over to other items or to be given back as cash (ryan confirmed this with someone over the phone and seems more than happy to oblige. he's SUPER friendly and helpful.).
to sum up: cashiers are uneducated about the new policy, so just speak up and get yourself the full maximum allowed value of coupons
good to know. we will see what happens when i go next time !!
Sooooooo... What you guys are saying is I should keep my eye on my FPCs and whichever ones say "max value $$$" I should only use at Walmart when I see a sale on that item, so that I can make money...?
The store in St. Dorothee is aware of the new policy.
i shopped at the decarie store this morning and afternoon and the two experiences was extreme opposites. i can say that i won't be shopping in the afternoons there anymore! i've had way too many bad experiences in the after.
this morning:
lovely older lady cashier. she was going to enter the cereal coupons as the item price, but then i told her i thought the new policy was to put in the max. value of the coupon. so she called the cs desk and a young guy came over and confirmed that the policy is to put in the max value. they both commented how awesome the coupon is and the check out lady said it was just like the show extreme couponers! she said she is a couponer herself, so she appreciated. both her and the cs rep were really, really nice and i was in and out of the store quicker than i've ever been.
this afternoon:
HORRIBLE! had the checkout girl automatically write down the item price when i'd already brought up the new policy about putting down the max value. then she called a cs rep who said that they're supposed to put the item price. i spoke up, and then this complete douchebag called keven came and said that they don't give money back and it's only the product price. i told him that i used the same coupon this morning and been told it was ok, and he said that the policy had changed??? so i asked him "the policy changed from this morning?". and he just kept going on and on that he was right. he was SO rude, arrogant and belittling. i've never been made to feel so crappy by customer service. seeing as they had already written on the coupon, i just went and grabbed an ice cream for $4.97 to get the value of the coupon. after that i walked passed the cs who i've dealt with heaps this week and told her that i wasn't allowed to use the coupon like she said i could. so i was able to returrn the ice cream and get my money back, and then shop with that.
so if you ever get keven, don't even bother with him because he is an absolute jerk of a manager who doesn't even know his own store's policies! ask for ashrita (totally not spelling that right...) because she knows what's going on and is really helpful. i'll be writing to walmart telling them how great i think she is in the hopes she gets rewarded somehow.
end of rant. phew.
Finally i found this thread!
I still can't get this policy applied at the 2 closest Walmarts to my place. Here too they won't accept the English policy!
What's wrong with them!?
Service was often not very good from cashiers too, sighs and such for 3-4 coupons? What, can't live and learn to save, others should live the same pathetic broken life they probably have?
But lets stick together and find that French policy with a reputable contact to get the same deals the rest of our Canadian buddies get!
I'm still waiting on a reply from the email I sent from the website. I've also emailed another contact I found on Sunday and I'm waiting on that as well. I won't give up until I get a french copy of that darn policy. Once I have it, I'm going back to WalMart and posting it everywhere, heck they made me feel so bad that maybe I'll make a flyer and put it on all the cars. Ok, I'm exagerating a bit but I will go back to that store and personnaly give it to the manager along with a copy of the email I've sent. Never again will I be humiliated for using coupons. And hopefully no newbie couponner will ever be make to feel that way.
For me I don't think I would buy the travel sizes as I don't need them, I feel if I happen to have a coupon and it has an overage than I will ask for it but I won't be planning anything as I hate arguing with cashiers and I just don't need travel sizes, although a lot of people might really want them to each is own.
