Thread: Double Coupon days

Hi I'm new here. I've been doing a little couponing since I stumbled across www.thecoupongoddess.com . I then started to search for coupons to use in Canada. So I found this site that helped me match up sales with coupons.
I thought I was doing pretty awesome yesterday when I used some coupons and some great BOGO sales at sobey's, saving around $55. I was talking with the lady bagging my groceries and she was saying how we can't go to the extremes they do in the states with coupons. I lamented how they don't do double coupon days so ya its not as good as in the states. Then she says yes we do! Huh?
WOW! I didn't know. They advertise it regularily for the 10% tuesday sale for the first tuesday of the month but not for double coupon day which happens to be the last tuesday of the month which I missed by ONE day!! sigh.
OK so we've established that my sobey's (Here in Lloydminster AB) does double coupon day. Do you know of any other shops that do double coupon days? WalMart? Zellers? RCSS? Co-op? SDM? That's pretty much all we have here. No london drugs for us, sniff, sniff.
Thanks in advance!
*edit to add* wow I guess our store is special.
I wanted to clarify the double coupon policy at our Sobey's. They of course can only take valid coupons and you are limited to a 2 dollar discount. Ex:if you have a coupon for 75 cents it will be doubled to 1.50 but if you have a coupon for 1.50 they will only give you a discount of 2.00 (still better than nothing). She might have said there was a limit on how many coupons per transaction but I'm not sure. I was too overcome by missing double coupon day by ONE day!!This thread is currently associated with: Sobeys, Co-op, Guess, London Drugs, Pharmaprix, Real Canadian Superstore RCSS, Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, ZellersLast edited by bluii76; Fri, Apr 29th, 2011 at 12:35 PM. This is the response I got from emailing Sobeys:
With regards to your query, if the couopon exceeds the value of the product, the full value of the coupon will be applied but we do not provide refunds (monetary amount).
As a Corporate policy, please see the following guidelines below.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
Policies & Procedures:
<o:p></o:p>
All coupons must be valid and have the following:
-Expiration date
-Mailing address must be in Canada
-One coupon only can be used against each item purchased.
-One of the following inscriptions should appear on the coupon
- To the merchant
- To the retailer
- To the franchise
- To the dealer
-Cannot be a Mailing coupon - to be mailed in by the Customers.
<o:p></o:p>
Do not accept Internet coupons that:
-are printed one colour on only one side of normal bond or photocopier paper -have face value of more than $2.00 -offer free product -dont have a coupon offer code -have a non-Canadian redemption address
<o:p></o:p>
Currently, only Portage La Prairie is offering this. Portage being a franchise store is doing this on their own, over and above the current promotion that Corporate has. Kenaston being a Corporate store.
<o:p></o:p>
This is definitely an avenue that we could pursue, but there is nothing concrete as of yet.
<o:p></o:p>
However, I have forwarded your concern to the appropriate people and they are looking into this.

Maybe if enough people contact regarding the issues they might wake up and offer it at every store

What do they mean by the part below?
Wouldn't that be any printed coupon?
I've used printed coupons at my Sobey's several times now without any problem...

So do I understand the "if the couopon exceeds the value of the product, the full value of the coupon will be applied but we do not provide refunds (monetary amount)." to mean that if a product costs $1.50 and we have a $2 coupon the $2 will be applied but I won't receive change for it? The 50 cents would be used towards my order though if I am purchasing more than that one item?
