What you need:
1. working console, they may check to see if the seal is broken
2. working controller, with battery cover
3. a/v cable
4. power brick/cable

I heard from a lot of people that they do not check. It's a hit and miss if you want to try .

It's totally YMMV, from my personal experience they did check, if the the console was in working condition...but possibly someone was just lucky... I heard about people who were able to trade in RROD consoles, and even modded ones, but I, personally, would never do something like that, and would never recommend it to anyone...

Mine quit, a month after the warranty run out. How convenient. I wish I could trade mine in now! It has 3 RROD

This is a very tempting deal. My son is married to his Xbox and upgrading to a wireless one to save the unsightliness of a blue cable running down the hallway would be nice.

that happened with mine too!!! BUT...i called and complained, as it was my SECOND one in less that 2 years. they were happy to help. id call microsoft, and a brand new system may get sent to you! i have had 3 and the 3rd one was manufactured 3 weeks before i got it!! (thanks to the manufacture date on the back!!)

I dunno about it... we have been on & off about getting an xbox...we are a nintendo family and since the new Nintendo will be out next year is making me put things on hold... however i so want to play one without using any controllers... lol I admit it I am wii fit junky... and mario kart junky... and proud to get my butt kicked every time by my 11 yr old!!!

His old though likely has a hard drive, this oen does not it only has 4gb flash memory so you can't do online gaming unless you buy a hard drive for it. 4gb is not enough for the majority of games out there.
