Coin Counters
BMO Bank of Montreal Coin Counters are a fast, convenient and free way to count and deposit loose change right into your BMO account or trade it in for cash.
Features:
- Free – This service is completely free to both BMO and non-BMO customers
- Fast – Our Coin Counter is one of the fastest machines available
- Accepts USD coins – No need to sort out U.S currency, just include them with your Canadian coins and they’ll be accepted at par.

If you have lot of change lying around ( like me ) then you can go to some BMO locations & put it in the coin counting machine & a receipt will print out which will give you cash when you exchange it
Its much better than the grocery store counting machines as they charge a commission of almost 10 % ..plus you have to buy groceries in that storeThis thread is currently associated with: N/A

The coin counter offer is super! Might be worth a visit to the branch just for this service. Handy for anybody doing fundraising too!
I seem to remember those grocery store ones (Sobey's but local one no longer has it) with the commission taken off. I think it was discussed here some time ago that the receipts can be exchanged for cash *unless the machine/receipt says otherwise* at a till.
Can anyone with a grocery store coin counter still in their area chime in on the receipt/cash discussion!
Update-tried calling local branch, as BMO link to find branch with coin counter just leads to branch locator which does not indicate whether the coin counter is there or not. Voice mail jail--customer service contact option switches to customer contact centre and a queue. Will just take a site visit on next trip in the area.Last edited by Ciel; Wed, May 4th, 2011 at 02:24 PM.

I used to always use the Coinstar (grocery store) machines too, but they take a huge chunk off...
edit: doesn't look like there are any in Ottawa...Last edited by xox2010; Wed, May 4th, 2011 at 04:37 PM.

It seems that the Ontario ones are all in Toronto/Markham at certain locations.

The Coinstar machine at the University Plaza Metro store has in small print--that the receipt can be applied to a min. grocery purchase of $20. Guess the store wants the business!
There was a large sticker about getting 1 Air Mile point. Not sure how that works but it might interest the AM cardholders.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

I tried it at my local BMO, on Sources Blvd. in DDO yesterday. I counted it beforehand to test the machine's accuracy. I had over 40$ worth of coins and the machine gave me the full amount minus 5 cents.
Only issue is that the cashier told me that it could only be deposited in a BMO account. She made a fuss about it. I don't have a bank account there, only a MasterCard. She accepted to apply the amount to my CC but denied giving me the money straight away.
I was in a rush to pickup kids and wife so I did not insisted but next time I will !
