i cannot believe this happen to me TODAY...i suppose have a balance a 30+ in my GC, when i tried to use it today, the cashier told me the balance is zero.....i am one hundred percent sure there were balance in the card.
i called the number on the back of the GC, the lady told me the card was used up the balance in a store, which i never been there......so they ask me to call the customer sercvice, they said 95% of the case they can give the money back to me , but will take maybe a week to investage......what i can do now is waiting~~~~~
gosh, this thread is scary!
I happened to tell my mom this yesterday, then it happened to me today,
I had 33.50 on my account and then today the card wouldnt work. She told me it was used in like 2 stores that I don't even go to :(
I think they are making fake cards with the same number & copying the magnetic strip ( which is very easy to copy ) ..if they can copy the magnetic strip of a credit card or debit card its very easy to copy the magnetic strip of a GC .
Even if they don't copy the magnetice strip but just make a fake card with the number on it with just a black strip on it ..they can ask the cashier to enter the number manually & process it when the card doesn't work when swiped ( since the magnetice strip has not been copied ) ..they just wait for the real original cards to go "LIVE" before they start using their fake cards ..they periodically check if the GC has gone LIVE or not
Haven't heard back from HO yet but i will update as soon as I hear anything
OMG...I am scared of buying any GC...unless I'd use them right away.
wow I am shocked.........
Wow, this is sad!! The stores will lose alot of money by the scammers!!! Grrr!!
And now I have to add my name to the list...about $80 was taken off one of my cards sometime between when I bought it and yesterday. GRR.
Is there a difference between "balance 0" and "card not active"?
I have a GC and asked the cashier to check the balance. She said the card was inactive. Would that mean I spent it all already quite some time ago and the balance of 0 expired? Or I bought it and it was never activated? Does that make sense..
Just wondering if your card has a 0 balance does it go inactive after a length of time if you dont reload it
I dont think Ive ever bought a card and not used atleast a portion of it, but find it a little odd that Im carrying around a useless card...
Yes, I think so - if you have the receipt from when you purchased the card, it should show that the value you purchased has been added and activated.
Gift cards are no longer allowed to expire in Ontario, not sure where you're located though.
