Thursday night I took my 2 older boys to a Youth COnference in Barrie. While I was there I heard a lady sharing a heartwrentching story with a friend of hers. This ladies husband lost his job 2 years ago. A job he worked at for years. (He went in to work on day and was told he was being let go). So after dealing with that he then began looking for work. After several promising jobs fell through he kind of slipped into a depression and stopped looking for work. While talking with this other lady a question was asked "How do you financially make it ?" The lady is a part time janitor for a small christian school so they are trying to make it on her salary alone. Her reply was "We have our hard times but I think last week was the hardest for me." she went on to tell her friend what happened. "I went to fix my kids lunch (they have 5 children) and all I had in the house was a loaf of bread and a bag of apples. So I made my hildren buttered bread sandwiches and an apple and we had lunch." I COULDN"T BELIEVE IT!!!! I knew this family but I had no idea how tough things had gotten for them. So on our way home I told my husband that we needed to do something to help. So together we went through my "stash" and took several boxes of food, toiletries, and cleaning supplies to their house friday night. I can't tell you how helping them made us feel. I watched the dad stand at the table and cry. He has promised my husband that he is going out this week to look for work. I put together a 3 ring binder and split my coupons in half and gave her a way to help stretch what little money they do have. She is so excited to go "couponing"! I can't wait to see how Couponing can change their life. So this week I took my eyes of of myself and saw someone else's need. Maybe someday she will be a part of SC 6 months ago I could not have been able to help this family out without "feeling it" or it putting us in a bind, but because of all the great posts and advice on this site we were able to help out his family and still have half of my "stash" left.
here is a pic of what we took over to their house. This thread is currently associated with: Apple

A while back when we where really struggling a friend of ours found out and stuck about $500 in walmart gift cards into our door...(She didn't even sign the card that it was her! It just happened that I was by the door when the envelope came slideing through and I opened the door!) It really shows who your true friends are when you personally are the one in need...
