procrastination pays off sometimes
Hee, hee...this morning I found another volunteer plant...a lady fern frond. So I dug it up and transplanted it in a deep pot, and it's in the shade for awhile till the root system develops.
Now, if I'd weeded those borders sooner, like I wanted to, I'd have hoed it down, and never would have discovered it. The same thing happens in my lawn at times, I've found hollyhocks, lemon balm, violets and other plants growing there, and dug em up for potting. And in spring, I like to wait till all the volunteer seeds in the borders sprout, weeds and all, because I've found some lettuce, tomatoes, and other seedlings there that transplanted nicely and became early producers. Once in a while my lawn gets a little tall, so I tell my neighbours it's part of my method to mow when the grass is tall enough to be mowed down and directed onto my flower/vegetable borders as a green mulch.
(I'm not the laziest gardener...but these are my coping strategies when I can't keep up.)
