I thought it would be great to hear from others in Edmonton where are the best places to do recycle walks/go through recyling? Has anyone else done recycle walks? What have you found? What items do you look out for? What are your tips? If you have pictures to brag - please post!

I went on my first recycle walk last week but only found 3 smart source and 1 $5 coupon for ice cream. I didn't look too closely because our entire neighbourhood puts all their recycling in blue bags - go figure. I would have to open every bag to really look through it which is kind of difficult to do with kids. Plus I know tons of people in the neighbourhood and am not quite over how I would feel if they found me snooping through their recycling.
I'm no longer couponing and my dogs have passed away. I can't figure out how to delete my profile. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm quite new, and I joined the day after our last garbage day
Now with the long weekend, I can't go on the search until Monday...I'm thinking most our neighborhood uses the blue bags, but I'm willing to go for a walk and check out if anyone is using the boxes (crossing my fingers).I've just joined SWAG BUCKS & you should too for Amazon.ca gift cards!
LF: Clorox wipes, Rootbeer 2L, Sprite 2L, activia/danone for any product, sunlight laundry detergent (powder), bounce sheets, meat, kelloggs, venus razors, icoke pins
FT: baby diaper & formula, glade, snuggle coupons, dog & cat food and products

City of Spruce Grove is doing a free -cycle program (recycle walk) that will take place on June 18 & 19. Residents can place unwanted items on their front property, and individuals who see value in those items can take them for free.
More details at www.sprucegrove.org
It will be interesting to see how many people will participate.

So if you really want to score coupons, etc and not open your neighbors bags, go to the big blue recycle bins near malls(there is one near Bonnie Doon Mall and there used to be one near the Kingsway Save on foods).
Whoever delivers the newspapers dumps the extra flyers, etc in these recycle bins..the bins are marked newspapers.
It is a good idea to have a rake or something to pull the flyers, etc over as it is not safe to lean in case the lid falls down. Also do not go when it is windy or really late at night as the homeless have been known to sleep in them.(but not so much now as it is nicier in the rivervalley). Timing is important as the truck comes to empty the bins usually in the early morning but it depends on their route.
As well another place is if you know anyone living in an apartment as often they leave the flyers/inserts in the lobby.Last edited by Kelkens; Sat, May 28th, 2011 at 11:29 PM.

Great ideas Kelkens. I am not too fond of going through my neighbours recycling. I have a bunch that save for me and I trade them for certain coupons. Online coupons or info on sales to use their coupons at etc. Most people just chuck them out anyway.

I get lots of inserts from the paper carriers in our neighbourhood. What I don't get is all the awesome coupons on cereal boxes. There is a giant recycling dumpster behind our house from the retirement living complex next door. The recycle truck comes on Thursdays so if I peak in when I pass each day I can see what is in there and worth grabbing.
I'm no longer couponing and my dogs have passed away. I can't figure out how to delete my profile. Sorry for the inconvenience.
