"How much arsenic is there usually in our soil?
All soil contains some amount of arsenic. In Ontario, background arsenic concentrations in old urban parkland range up to 17 parts per million (ppm), while concentrations in rural parkland can reach 11 ppm.
(snip)
How does exposure to arsenic occur?
Because arsenic occurs naturally in the environment, everyone is exposed to low levels. The greatest, most common source of exposure to organic arsenic is from food....

I checked all the toys and items that were handed down to me through friends and family. As a new mom, I didn't have the time nor the energy to check everything at first. Being a new mom places enough on your plate, not to mention the normal worries and concerns.
Now add the fact that I have to be afraid for the bottles my son drinks from, the toys he licks and puts in his mouth, the spoon I feed him with, the tummy time mat he uses...
I use my old gerber spoon from when I was born, I breastfeed, I make our own laundry detergent, I cook all our own food (most of it, anyways...)
Like I have time to constantly check for product recalls! Just try and not have any plastic in your home. Impossible!

I don't have the time to check around, but what I have done is gotten onto the US government Recall e-mail list. - They e-mail me whenever there are any product recalls, with a link to photos of the items - it usually takes me just a second to know that I don't have certain toys in the house (I've picked them up enough times to have a good idea of whats there.

i just checked my carseat...no recalls PHEW!.... its just ridiculous what if something happend b4 they send out a recall, childrens life are put to POTENTIAL danger when they send out defected products... some one should sue them for a hefty amount once then maybe theyll be more careful. but now days it just seems they let anything go to the stores!

My Thomas The Train Table & Chairs set and storage bin set was recalled two years ago now or maybe even 3 this fall and we didn't have a problem returning it to Walmart and I had 5 of them - lol - I had 1 table & chairs set and 2 storage bin sets and then my sister had gotten our baby nephew at the time a set of each for his b-day too so I to take it all back, my daycare kids weren't too happy to be back on the floor but what can you do...lol...red lead paint I guess comes first I do hate how many recalls there have been but at the same time I do appreciate that we are at least being told and we that we know what is going on and into our children's mouths/bodies!!!

More kids products recalled over lead levels:
Children's birthday cards and Disney jewelry are among products being recalled in the U.S. and Canada because of high lead levels.
