Image of the U.S. has plunged under Donald Trump: survey

The image of the United States has deteriorated sharply across the globe under President Donald Trump and an overwhelming majority of people in other countries have no confidence in his ability to lead, a survey from the Pew Research Center showed. Five months into Trump’s presidency, the survey spanning 37 nations showed U.S. favourability ratings in the rest of the world slumping to 49% from 64% at the end of Barack Obama’s eight years. But the falls were far steeper in some of America’s closest allies, including U.S. neighbors Mexico and Canada, and European partners like Germany and Spain.

Pressure is on Montreal in Voyageurs Cup final second leg against TFC

Toronto F.C. and the Montreal Impact will play the second leg of the Canadian Championship tonight at BMO Field. A TFC victory would earn them a berth in next year’s CONCACAF Champions League but if the Impact win, they must play TFC again in August in a one-game playoff.

Natural gas rates in Ontario set to rise on July 1

Natural gas rates are going up July 1 for most customers in Ontario. The Ontario Energy Board approved new rates for Enbridge, Natural Resource Gas Ltd. and Union Gas. The typical residential customer of Enbridge will see their bills rise by about $36 per year. The average Natural Resource Gas customer will pay about $25 more per year. Average Union Gas customers in the South and North East regions will pay about $40 more a year.

OPP say speeding deaths are on the rise

It might not come as much of a surprise but the amount of road deaths caused by lead footed drivers is on the rise. Provincial Police say the number of speeding-related fatalities on roads it patrols has nearly doubled so far this year; 30 as of Monday according to Kerry Schmidt. OPP say officers have laid more than 1400 charges so far this year against drivers clocked at 50km/h or more over the posted speed limit.

TFC wins Canadian Championship with last-second stunner

Sebastian Giovinco scored twice to lift Toronto FC to a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Impact on Tuesday, and the Canadian championship title. Giovinco scored the game-winner in added time, running and leaping into the crowd of delirious Toronto fans in the south stands at BMO Field.
