Hurricane Irma hits the Caribbean

The most powerful Atlantic Ocean hurricane in recorded history has made its first landfall in the islands of the northeast Caribbean. The storm is heading west-northwest on a path toward Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Cuba before possibly heading for Florida over the weekend. Global News Chief Meteorologist, Anthony Farnell says Irma isn’t showing any signs of weakening just yet. The US National Weather Service says Puerto Rico had not seen a hurricane of Irma's magnitude since hurricane San Felipe in 1928, which killed more than 27-hundred people in Guadeloupe, Puerto Rico and Florida

Nearly half of Canadians living paycheck to paycheck

We’re waiting to hear from the Bank of Canada on a potential interest hike, later this morning. Economists are pushing up their predictions for another interest rate hike. For now, the bank's trend-setting rate is at three-quarters of a percentage point after a quarter-point increase in July. A new survey by the Canadian Payroll Association suggests nearly half of Canadian workers are living paycheck to paycheck, thanks to soaring spending and debt levels. The poll found that 47 per cent of respondents said it would be difficult to meet their financial obligations if their paycheque was delayed by even a single week.

Osuna blows save as Blue Jays lose wild one in Boston

The Red Sox have won their own version of the Boston marathon, playing 19 innings and beating the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2. The game at Fenway Park took six hours and ended after 1 a.m. Wednesday. About 700 fans were left in the ballpark when Hanley Ramirez hit a winning single.
