Irma, Harvey combined damage total in U.S. could near $300B: AccuWeather

The worst of Irma is done but the widespread devastation is becoming increasingly clear. Irma left a trail of destruction throughout the southeast, killing at least five people in the US, flooding major cities including Jacksonville, Florida and Charleston, South Carolina and leaving millions without power. Irma was downgraded from a tropical storm to a tropical depression last night. She is expected to turn toward Alabama and then into western Tennessee this morning. Some residents are being allowed to return to homes and businesses despite the fact they won’t have power, not to mention limited cell phone service. Just how bad was the damage caused by Irma? Well, ACCUWeather is pegging the costs of Irma to be in the neighbourhood of 100-million dollars. And they’re estimating that if you take the total cost of Irma and Harvey combined - it would be about the same as hurricane Katrina.

Apple unveils iPhone 8 — and more — today

Apple is expected to unveil a dramatically redesigned iPhone today. The unveiling will take place at the company’s new headquarters in Cupertino, California. The ``anniversary'' iPhone, which would come a decade after the first version, could also cost twice what the original iPhone did. Various leaks have indicated the new phone will feature a sharper display, a screen that will extend from edge to edge of the device, facial recognition technology for unlocking the phone and wireless charging. A better camera is a safe bet, too. I believe Samsung already has those features.

Broncos block late kick to seal win over Chargers

Shelby Harris got a hand on Younghoe Koo's 44-yard field goal attempt with a second left, and the Broncos began the Vance Joseph era with a 24-21 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night.
