Canadians don't want 'Canada First' foreign policy mirroring Trump's: poll

A new poll suggests most Canadians don't want to follow a path similar to the US, but the appeal of a ``Canada First'' approach remains. The Canadian Press surveyed nearly five-thousand Canadians between September 15th and October 1st. More than 60 per cent of respondents said they don't want a ``Canada first'' foreign policy, similar to US President Donald Trump's ``America first'' rallying cry. But the data also suggest more than a fifth of Canadians think the country should be more isolated -- a marked increase over recent years. Canada’s two most recent prime ministers may cross paths this week in Washington. Former political adversaries Justin Trudeau and Stephen Harper will both be in the US capital to discuss trade ahead of the resumption of NAFTA talks. Trudeau will sit down with Trump and congressional lawmakers tomorrow, while Harper attends a panel event just blocks away
