was at town center yesterday (bit of a mess!) was going to go out to vaughn mills today but our furnace stopped working yesterday and when they came out this morning they said they needed to get another part and would be back at 7 p.m. Tonight, they came back but opened the new package and found it was defective! So guess it will be another cool night until they return tomorrow!!! Just wish it could have been resolved because we would have gone out to vaughn mills or the x-mas market again.......not to mention not freezing over night!!! Oh well, we shall survive........

Rex Tillerson to visit Ottawa Tuesday to discuss NAFTA, North Korea

Ottawa is playing host today to the US Secretary of State. It's Rex Tillerson's first visit to the north in this role. He'll meet with Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland, as well as ministers from the Trudeau government's cabinet committee on Canada-US relations. It's expected NAFTA re-negotiations, border security and the North Korean nuclear crisis will be among the topics of discussion.

Derailed Amtrak train was traveling 80 mph in 30 mph zone, safety board says

Investigators looking into that fatal commuter train derailment in Seattle say it was travelling about 80 killometres over the speed limit. The Amtrak train was making its inaugural trip on a new service out to Portland when it came off the tracks on an overpass, killing 3 people and injuring about 100. The National Transportation Safety board will be looking at a few things, including whether or not a safety mechanism designed to prevent this kind of thing from happening was actually in place. Amtrak's president maintains the control was not in use on this portion of the track.

Maple Leafs Day

The Maple Leafs are getting set to host the Hurricanes in a rare afternoon tilt, as the team celebrates its 100th anniversary. The game, dubbed the next century game, starts at 2pm on what the mayor has officially named *Maple Leafs Day.*

100 years ago today the Toronto Arenas played their first hockey game. The team would later become the Maple Leafs.

Ack! Its only Tuesday. But we are on our way to enjoying the Christmas holidays in just a few short days.

Speaking of short days, the Winter Solstice is coming up on Thursday. This will be the shortest day of the year, then things start to brighten up after that, although we won't notice it until sometime in January.

An elderly Florida lady did her shopping and, upon returning to her car, found four males in the act of leaving with her vehicle.
She dropped her shopping bags and drew her handgun, proceeding to scream at the top of her lungs, “I have a gun, and I know how to use it! Get out of the car!”. The four men didn't wait for a second threat. They got out and ran like mad.
The lady, somewhat shaken, then proceeded to load her shopping bags into the back of the car and got into the driver’s seat. She was so shaken that she could not get her key into the ignition.
She tried and tried, and then she realized why. It was for the same reason she had wondered why there was a football, a Frisbee and two 12-packs of beer in the front seat. A few minutes later, she found her own car parked four or five spaces farther down.
She loaded her bags into the car and drove to the police station to report her mistake.
The sergeant to whom she told the story couldn't stop laughing. He pointed to the other end of the counter, where four pale men were reporting a car jacking by a mad, elderly woman described as white, less than five feet tall, glasses, curly white hair, and carrying a large handgun.
No charges were filed.
The moral of the story?
If you’re going to have a senior moment… make it memorable.
