Highway 407 investigating ‘inside theft of data’
A former employee of Ontario’s 407 private freeway quit suddenly Wednesday as a PC candidate in next month’s election, barely an hour after the highway confirmed that information on 60,000 customers had been leaked through an “internal theft.”
Simmer Sandhu, the candidate for Brampton East, said in an online statement that he had recently been made aware of anonymous allegations against him and that the "allegations are totally baseless" and that he denies them.
However, Sandhu also said it would be impossible to continue as a candidate and that the election is too important “to get caught up in the issues surrounding any one person.”
Did you know?
The Caesar was invented in 1969 by restaurant manager PJ Ferneyhough of the Calgary Inn (today the Westin Hotel) in Calgary.
He devised the cocktail after being tasked to create a signature drink for the Calgary Inn's new Italian restaurant.
Doug Ford vows to cut gas prices
A lot of the buzz from the campaign trail yesterday surrounded Doug Ford, who promised that a PC government would cut gas prices by 10 cents a litre in Ontario, including by reducing the gas tax, but he wasn’t clear on how he would replace the lost revenue.
The Tory leader says he would cut the provincial gas tax by 5.7 cents a litre. He also says he would scrap the province’s cap-and-trade system, which puts a price on carbon and has added 4.3 cents a litre to the price of gasoline. Cap and trade brought in about $2 billion in revenue last year, and the gas tax brought in about $2.7 billion.
Vegas goes up 2-1 over Jets
Mark Scheifele’s playoff magic wasn't enough as the Golden Knights held off a late Jets rally to win 4-2 and now sit two wins away from reaching the Stanley Cup final in their inaugural season.
Today is...
National Caesar Day fittingly falls each year on the Thursday before the May 2-4 long weekend – Canada’s unofficial kick-off to Summer. Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast will celebrate this day by having out national cocktail! Cheers!
