Ontario’s Tory government set to release climate change plan

Doug Ford and his Conservative government is set to unveil the party's climate change plan later today. The event happening north of the city comes months after the province scrapped the cap and trade system, introduced by the former Liberal government. Environment Minister Rod Phillips has already revealed the plan won't include putting a price on carbon, which is a federal requirement the Tories have promised to fight in court. The announcement comes on the heels of a new report from one of the world's most prestigious medical journals, suggesting Canada's lack of progress in cutting greenhouse-gas emissions is already killing Canadians. According to The Lancet, chronic exposure to air pollution from greenhouse-gas-emitting activities is killing an estimated 7100 Canadians a year -- 2.1-million people worldwide.

Christmas lights attraction annoying neighbors, town wants homeowner to pay

We all know someone who takes Christmas overboard but state side, one man's annual Christmas light display has become a battleground with city hall. Tom Apruzzi has been decking out his home in Old Bridge, New Jersey with about 70,000 lights for 15 years, but town officials say the crowds that come to see his music and light show slow down traffic and require extra police presence. They want Apruzzi to pay $2000 a night for security or the town will shut them down. Apruzzi says last year's display raised money for Homes For Our Troops, an organization that builds and donates homes nationwide for severely injured veterans.

Maple Leafs centre Auston Matthews scored twice and had an assist in his return to the lineup after more than a month on the sidelines to lead Toronto over San Jose 5-3 on Wednesday night.

We've made it to the end of the week/month. Tomorrow starts the countdown to Christmas & this time it certainly seems like it, weather wise. We've had some white stuff & cold wild winds early. A lot of houses have had decorations up since the beginning of November & trees lite up inside. I suspect that this will be the weekend that anybody who hasn't done so will.

Canada to sign trade deal today on sidelines of G20 summit

Canada will sign the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement today in Buenos Aires, on the sidelines of the high-profile G20 summit. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will join U.S. President Donald Trump and outgoing Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto to formally sign the trade agreement early this morning.

Hate crimes on rise in Canada: Statistics Canada

The number of hate crimes reported to Canadian police jumped sharply last year after years of small increases, with new statistics showing incidents targeting blacks, Jews and Muslims accounting for most of the upturn. Hate crimes targeting black people accounted for 16 per cent of all hate crimes in Canada in 2017. They stayed the most common type of race- or ethnicity-related hate crime. Incidents involving Muslims more than doubled between 2016 and 2017, from 139 incidents to 349. Overall, hate crimes targeting Muslims accounted for 17 per cent of all incidents. Hate crimes targeting Jews increased for the second consecutive year and accounted for 18 per cent of all hate crimes nationally. Proportionally, Jews were the most targeted group captured in the data.
