Social Security?

I believe in a multicultural, bilingual Canada, free from recycled American rants.

A lot of Canadians call old age security, canada pension, welfare, unemployment, assisted housing, etc, as social security. Albiet younger Canadians than you or I.

A radical new tire design by Michelin. The next generation of tires.
They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show.



Yes, those are 'spoke-like connection fins to the inner part of the tire from the outside tread 'wrap'!
The next picture shows how odd it looks in motion.



Makes you wonder how the ride feels doesn't it? Well, it is fantastic in the extreme!





These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.
The bad news for Police and other law enforcement is that stinger spikes will not work on these.
Just think of the impact on existing technology:
A. No more air valves.
B. No more air compressors at gas stations.
C. No more repair kits.
D. No more flat tires.
E. Less expensive and more money in the driver's pocket.

I thought it was just me! I know the actual lyrics, but I just enjoy singing Maxwell jump. I got plenty more of those, but the language is often times offensive.

This is not a new design. Its based on the Tweel design. Given the high speed problems with the Tweel, the first commercial applications will be in lower-speed. This design is used on construction equipment to prevent down time from flat tires and the equipment are slow moving. They have practically no service life on cars though, due to the constant flexing combined with high speed. It is my understanding that these pictures are just to demonsrtate how well this design works and will be implimented in Michelin's next generation Run Flat Tires. This design is used to a lesser extent inside the Michelin Run Flat tires. It's called the PAX system. Run-flat tires accounted for less than 1% of replacement tire sales in the U.S. in 2005. In 2006, it was expected that such tires would gain popularity with armored vehicle manufacturers, but growth figures were slow with one major model, the Michelin PAX, being discontinued by the manufacturer.A Michelin study released in 2008 found that only 3 percent of drivers worldwide want run-flat tires. U.S. market share is well below 1 percent. American Honda Motor Co. announced that the 2009 Honda Odyssey Touring and Acura RL were its last models available with run-flat tires and with Honda no longer using run-flats. This leaves only a handful of volume manufacturers offering them as standard fittings and only on some models. An exception is BMW, who are the largest fitter of run-flats as original equipment.
