Veterinary staff at the Wildlife Rescue Association of B.C. in Burnaby treat a skunk captured in Vancouver. Believed to be "Bubbles", a baby skunk that had a plastic coffee cup lid noosed around its neck for months, the animal had surgery and is recovering. (Submitted Photo)
VANCOUVER - Bubbles the skunk is free of his coffee cup lid necklace.
The skunk was trapped Monday in the hopes of removing a tight coffee cup lid noosed around its neck.
A group of volunteers plotted sightings of Bubbles on a map to determine its territory then regularly set up a motion-detecting infrared camera at various locations to establish where the animal liked to hang out.
Locating one of its favourite haunts, local residents who identified themselves only as Shirley and Lynne, lured the skunk into a feral cat trap with a blend of tuna and sardines. The skunk never sprayed them, Shirley said.
They took the skunk to the Wildlife Rescue Centre of B.C. in Burnaby. But to everyone’s surprise, wildlife staff found no lid around the animal’s neck, though the skin around its collar was chafed raw.
The skunk, which showed no signs of infection, is in isolation recovering. It will be released in six to eight weeks where it was captured so it can be reunited with another skunk that often appeared with it in surveillance tapes. http://www.canoe.ca/CanoeGlobalnav/invisible.gif

However, a week earlier, another man claimed to have cornered a skunk, covered it with a blanket and tarp, then snapped off the brittle plastic noose.
“I felt quite manly when I caught the skunk,” said Jack Salmon, who was slightly “misted” during the sting.
“I’d put money on it that the one I caught was Bubbles,” Salmon said. Bubbles’ predicament is not uncommon, according to wildlife experts. Plastic domed lids, used with slurpy or ice coffee cups, often have a 5-cm hole for stirring. Looking to lick remnant drops in discarded cups, animals stick their heads into the lid’s hole. When they try to retreat, the lids pop off the cup but stay noosed around their necks.

Good Morning All! Just on my way to the H.S. and stopped into the library for a bit.
I entered the contest for the Breakie next week - find out next week if I luck out or not. Does anyone know if they will be giving out any prizes as they usually do?
My driver from Orlando received his e-card from me thanking him for driving us around and he thanked me profusely for appreciating his service! I told him I know who to call if I return there!:-)
why did this remind me of you?

First thing I do when I get home is put on shorts and a t shirt. When it gets around a constant plus 3 to 5 I put on socks. Below zero thin track pants.
Really?
I Think of this:

Good Afternoon My Friends
We definately have a camp divided!:lolsign: Let's just say I give a new meaning to the word "cold feet". My hubby bought me Heated Socks one year (battery operated). Two layers of socks not unusual for me either. So when I say "Bundle Up" I know I do!
I am cold thinking of you guys who have not packed those shorts away deep deep in your closet.http://surfntheweb.com/images/ani_smly_coldair.gif
