Washington - Must pay $270g's following animal abuse complaints. The owner of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has agreed to pay a record $270,000 fine to settle charges it violated federal animal welfare laws. In one incident Banko, a 35year-old female Asian elephant, was required to perform in July in Los Angeles despite pain fromprobable sand colic:omg: USDA inspectors resported in 2008 that wheelbarrows used to carry meat to tigers also were used to transport waste!:omg:Inspectors also turned up allegations of worn pens and feeding areas, poor medical record-keeping, improper fencing and failure to control elephants. The allegations followed complaints from PETA about abuse of elephants and tigers at the circus, including physical punishment:rant::rant:
Oh how I wish circuses using animals for kids "entertainment" would just END for good!!! It is not fair to keep large animals in cages and force them to do little "tricks" for the entertainment of people. It is nothing short of animal abuse and should have ended many, many years ago (preferably it never ever existed but can't change that now!)
