Good morning, everyone.
I'm off to a couple of appts today (with some sort of Mirvish announcement in between - not sure what that's all about). This is assuming I can leave - the short one is using my foot as a pillow again.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

My game plan in case I ever got called was to look up the sports results from the night before, but I didn't have time to get that done. And there was no way I was going to get that movie question. I was hoping for some world geography, current politics, Beatles lyrics, or - too much to ask - Star Trek trivia.

One of the city’s historic theatres is about to get a new name.
Local theatre impresario David Mirvish will be leading a ceremony at the Canon Theatre on Yonge Street, between Queen and Dundas, at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
The Canon has gone by different names over its 91-year history.
The theatre opened as The Pantages in 1920 as a vaudeville house and movie theatre. It was built by the founder of Famous Players, Nathan L. Nathanson.
At the time, it was the largest theatre in the country.
In the 1930s, after financial troubles, the theatre was exclusively a movie house and was called The Imperial. The building was split into six separate movie theatres in 1973 and renamed once again and called the Imperial Six.
Famous Players lost its lease on the building in the 1980s to Cineplex Odeon, which then transformed the theatre back to its original state. Livent, then a division of Cineplex Odeon, took over the theatre and staged the Andrew Lloyd Webber hit The Phantom of the Opera in 1989, which ran for just over a decade.
The landmark changed hands again, but was finally purchased by Mirvish Productions in 2008.

“Always cool and comfortable,” claims this ad for the Pantages Theatre in July, 1928, and on this ridiculously hot night (it’s a staggering 86F in Toronto), sitting in a cool movie theatre sounds like a great idea.
As we recently examined, air conditioning was an early attraction in both movie palaces and neighbourhood theatres, and both its advertising and marquees often capitalized on the public’s desire to chill out.
Lady Be Good, based on the musical by George and Ira Gershwin, was directed by Richard Wallace, who spent years directing comedy shorts under Mack Sennett and Hal Roach.
Although the film was silent, this ad could be somewhat misleading to modern viewers with its claims of hearing “all the music” and seeing “all the romance that was the talk of Broadway.”
