Rusty Helix
A new infrared picture reveals the intricate structure of the Helix Nebula, the rust-colored remains
of a star like our sun that puffed up as it died and shed its shells of gas and dust into space.
In visible light, fine details in the Helix are largely obscured by dust. But the infrared view
—snapped by the European Southern Observatory's VISTA telescope—can pierce this veil
to see radiating filaments of cooler gas in the rings as well as a faint halo of thinly spread
gas that extends to at least four light-years from the dead star's core.
and shoot missed waving lee off - certainly wish they have a terrific time. :)
hope everyone is having a cosy day - seems nippy but nice and :sunny:

Wonderful pic Chers - thanks for sharing.
On a related note - I called the THS yesterday to ask about Percy. He still isn't listed on their website and I was worried (Yea, I know he's not my responsibility anymore and I should just let it go, but I simply can't). They will not be adopting him out until he has completed a "behavioural foster". They are still waiting for an appropriate foster to come available but they want to get a true reading of the dog so his next placement can be better. I'm sorry that he's still at the shelter but their plan tells me they are not hiding from his issues and, one would hope, also means they will not hide his issues from the next round of perspective adopters. A small glimmer of positiveness in this mess.
Just bacj from a great day of skiing...sun shining, good snow conditions ......

My Friends...
Today I come on Board with Great Sadness and a Heavy Heart.
On this Psunday, January 22nd of the Year 2012, my Dear Helen Passed Away.
I was baking Cookies when my Wife and a Friend of ours came upstairs with the News that Helen slipped into a coma.
We rushed to the Hospital.
We saw Her, but She was not awake; Her breathing was laboured.
After a while, the Wife and I waited outside so that Immediate Family could have their Time Together.
We were Informed that Helen had Passed Away at 5:20pm.
The Wife is pretty Upset.
I told Her that G*d just needed an Assistant and Helen Submitted Her Resume.
It is hard to hold back the Tears... She will be soooo Missed.
R.I.P. Dear Helen

I am deeply sorry to hear about dear Helen's passing.
Thankfully she was not suffering, and was not lingering for days,
weeks on end...
It is a difficult time for you and your wife... and Helen's immediate family.
You had some wonderful times together....
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife....
