Thanks for all your kind wishes for our new little addition. I had an interview yesterday afternoon and for a split second, I actually thought of calling it off because I was having such a good time with Oggie. Then the reality of commerce (or rather, lack thereof) kicked in.
My goal with Oggie is to do some structured obedience training (sit, down, stay type training) but to concentrate on socialization excercies as they present themselves - a just-in-time training approach. I'm going to have to watch myself as he is a very quick study. This morning he was chewing on a rawhide which I thought was a perfect opportunity to get him used to giving things back. I asked him to give it to me. He stopped chewing, but wasn't about to let it go. So, I put my hand on the side of the rawhide not in his mouth and told him to LEAVE IT. If I have to repeat something three times I gentley nudge the dog to show what I mean by the command; however, only got to two with my hand on rawhide when he opened his mouth and gave it up. He was immediately rewarded him with a dessicated duck treat (not my favourite - but apprently it's his). Tail wags and kisses all round. Then I gave the rawhide back to him. He chewed it for about 2 seconds, spit it out at my feet and then sat up waiting for another duck treat!!
