Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at Government House. One is from Ottawa, another is from Toronto, and the third is from Montreal.
All three go with an official to examine the fence.
The Ottawa contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil.
"Well," he says, "I figure the job will run about $900, $400 for materials, $400 for my crew and $100 profit for me."
The Toronto contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says,"I can do this job for $700. That's $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for me."
The Montreal contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the government official and whispers, "$2,700."
The official, incredulous, says, "You didn't even measure like the other guys. How did you come up with such a high figure?"
The Montreal contractor whispers back, "$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we hire the guy from Toronto to fix the fence."
"Done!" Replies the government official.
And that, my fellow tax payers, is how a Government Stimulus plan works.

...hmmm... contractors...
I probably can get the deck done somehow without one, right?
This deck has really had it...(railings fell off long ago, has been patched so that no one would go through, steps are all higgly piggly wiggly woggly, plywood board covering a rotten spot, you know the type of thing)
What I have been visualizing is a nice composite or fake wood deck, with railings and a cover type thing like the neighbours have(a lightweight wavy plexi thing that they put on themselves)
So... Would anyone have any suggestions or advice culled from their experience?
What a nice day to the start of SummerTime eh? Went on a bike ride and down to the beach and played a LB game today - also did quite a bit of walking, feeling it somewhat in the legs but what the heck it was enjoyable!!!:-)Hope you all enjoyed today!!!

The tall ships were very pretty. There were replica ships from the War of 1812, and even a pirate ship. Just about jumped out of my skin when canons were fired on the pirate ship (and my friend swears that Jack Sparrow was onboard!).
There were also reenactors trying to get folks into the spirit of Toronto in 1812. My friends and I took some refuge from the sun by having a little rest on benches in a shaded area...only to end up in the middle of a play - it seems a Toronto businessman was not too happy that the British had commandeered his ship to transport arms and not the pretty fabrics he needed for the ladies of Toronto. I should think the war would have ended far sooner if there had been an embargo on chocolate - Toronto ladies would have never stood for that. :P
After we wandered around at Harbourfront, I headed east (we were all tired by then). I was going to pick up a few groceries and did a little detour. I was very glad I did - I ended up having a tour of the Redpath Sugar Museum. After the tour, I popped by Sugar Beach, to see the sunbathers.
Then I came home and crashed. My muscles are not happy with me right now, tomorrow they are going to be cursing me.
