Plenty of Punches Thrown In First Leaders' Debate

Stephen Harper's record on the economy and the environment faced an all-out assault from three different fronts in Thursday's televised leaders' debate. NDP Leader Tom Mulcair, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau and the Green party's Elizabeth May set their sights on multiple aspects of the Conservative's program of tax cuts & balanced budget pledges. Harper was repeatedly forced on to the defensive, ``clarifying'' statistics flung at him by his opponents. The debate was a slugfest but there was no knockout, ending in a draw.

Parapan Am Games Kick Off Today

The Parapan Am games kick off today in Toronto following a five day torch relay. The relay will conclude at Queens Park where a celebration will be held at noon on the lawn of the legislature. There are 72 athletes from across Ontario who will be participating in events such as wheelchair rugby and cycling. Opening ceremonies is set for 7 p.m at York University.

Jays Slam Twins, Complete Four-Game Sweep

Edwin Encarnacion drove in four runs on two doubles and added his 21st home run of the season as the Blue Jays finished off a four-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins with a 9-3 win on Thursday. The win extends Toronto's winning streak to five games going into a crucial weekend series against the American League East-leading New York Yankees. ​Maybe we can sweep the series here too!
