Donald Trump Announces 20% Tariff on Canadian Softwood Lumber

The Trudeau government calls the US announcement about impending duties on Canadian softwood lumber imports “unfair” and “baseless,” and it’s promising some sort of help for the lumber industry. US President Donald Trump signalled yesterday that duties around 20% would be imposed on Canadian lumber imports and would be retroactive for 90 days. Quebec and B.C. have also both condemned the move. The B.C. lumber trade council says the duties are completely without merit, noting American demand for lumber exceeds what the US industry can produce. Then don't sell to US & see how long it takes them to come back.

The Asian Markets will take all that we have at a Higher price.

Then, as you mention, we will see how Trump takes that news.

The actual duty on these exports is speculated to be 24%.

I would like to see the soft wood industry in Canada to tell Trump to stick his duty where the sun doesn't shine.
When the construction industry in the US starts to suffer due to a lack of raw materials, I would raise the prices to the US by 25% with no duties involved.
I would like to see the look on his face when this happens.
It may finally wipe that smug look off his face to see that he cannot "bully" Canadians around any more.
He needs to see that the US needs Canada more than Canada needs the US.
This should be extended to Oil and other raw material Exports as well.
Canada might suffer some short term hardship, but they will come out much better than where they are right now.
He is such a BULLY much like as he was on his TV show.
This game of chicken has to end and he needs to be taught a lesson.
He cannot command the rest of the world to accept his obtuse opinions.
