printer ink or toner

im not sure where i should go to ask a question for ink or toner for my printer, but im wondering where the best deal is for that kind of stuff, if anyone has any hints it would be much appreciated. thank you

I suggest taking your old cartridges to Island InkJet if you have one around and they will refill them for a fraction of the cost. Keep in mind it will be of slightly less quality and will void the warranty on your printer. But for those who really only use a printer to print out coupons and the like, this is an excellent alternative.

I've tried the ink-refill kiosks but had little luck.....most of the time the cartridges dries out (I don't use it often). I have been buying new cartridges off eBay and so far no problems.

I have to agree with Mulock on this one, using Island Inkjet or the same type might be cheaper.

However, I've seen a few things happen.

1) Cartridge is damaged when they refill it and when you start using it, it overflows or spills out causing a lot of damage to the printer itself or making it no longer usable as the print head is damaged.

2) The cartridge spits no ink out at all and you wind up losing your money.

The biggest issue with this is that if you spill as inidcated the warranty will be void, or you can damage the printer.

The other side of this coin: The printers theses days can be purchased for 30-40$ at WallyWorld, the ink is generally more expensive then the printer itself!

We would like to first point out that refilling cartridges does not void printer warranties. Quality is dependant on a variety of factors since we are dealing with an item the manufacturers have designed to be used once and then thrown away to sit in the earths landfills for the next 1000 years. Sometimes you get one refill from a cartridge, somtimes 5+. As long as you get one refill out of it you are ahead of the game but at some point that cartridge will no longer be refillable and you will have to start the process over (and which is why we have a 100% satisfaction guarantee).

A few points in order to achieve the best quality refills:
1) Never print with an empty cartridge. Running an empty cartridge is like running your car without any oil, it can potentially damage the printhead.
2) The environment makes a difference. Humidity will lessen the chance of your cartridge drying out (whether OEM or refilled).
3) When refilling, it's best to bring a cartridge to IIJ just as it starts to run out of ink. Sponges inside the cartridge dry out over time and we cannot work miracles on dead cartridges.
4) Pick a trusted refiller. Inks are very specific to cartridges and Island Ink-Jet carries cartridge specific inks and has a tremendous amount of knowledge about the refill process. Some generic refillers carry generic inks and there simply is no such think as a universal ink. Don't set yourself up for failure.

Point #1: While possible this is certainly an exception and not the rule. We have invested in significan R&D, created industry leading tech and resource manuals and systems and much more however there will always be a human component to refilling combined with the unknown of where the cartridge has been prior to being refilled. Of course, should something happen this is covered in our guarantee.

Point #2 is simply incorrect since refilling is a process and no cartridge can be guaranteed to work indefinitely. If one were to review financial statements of printer manufacturers you would find that the printers are throw-away items. Manufacturers essentially give them away in order to tie consumers into purchasing their ink consumbables. The majority of profits from an OEM's business come from their ink cartridges. You will find quite often that after refilling a cartridge a few times wou've saved more than the cost of a new printer.

I've bought some toner cartridges and ink cartridges from piloshop.ca.
prices is good, my brother ink is less than $2, for my brother toner, it's around $20.

I would probably avoid Piloshop. They seem to get a ton of bad reviews, mainly due to not shipping products and their main address appears to be in a residential neighbourhood.
It also seems a bit fishy that a random new person would come and promote a site no one has heard of.

Toner as it's a dry power and last a very long time. It is a bit expensive but if you barely print, it can last you a long time and save money.

For example, toner you can leave it for a year without use, you can easily turn on the machine and print, but with ink, you'll have to go buy new ones.

Monoprice.com also has a range of toners and cartridges. I bought some Canon cartridges with chips for $1.82. This is much cheaper than 123inkcartridges.ca and many other retail stores (even with the shipping and taxes). I've been using these cartridges for 3 months with no issues or problems.
