Anyone know anything about daycare subsidies?
My DD is in a centre based daycare 2 days a week even though I dont work to help her with her speech (our doctor recommended enrolling her in the specific daycare).
I never thought much about subsidies but I've recently had numerous ppl tell me I should be getting a subsidy because of our income level.
Does anyone know how they work? Approximate income level needed for them? Where to apply or find more info?

In Ottawa I believe you do it through the city. Not sure if it's like that everywhere.
Daycare subsidies are city specific. Each city runs their own program. If you are in Ottawa, PM me. I'm well versed in the Ottawa system. For subsidies you need to meet the work criteria (in addition to income). That means that you must be working or in school during the time your child is in daycare. They do give you a 3month grace period to find work. But if you are at home, then you likely will not qualify. I'm pretty sure (although not 100% and it is city specific so it might be different for your city) a medical reason for the child is not a valid criteria.
Also, depending the way your city runs it, your child may have to be in a "subsidized spot" meaning only certain spots at certain daycares have subsidies. There is often a waitlist for these spots.

I'll look into the city specifics, although I dont have my hopes up for a variety of reasons (I'm at home with DS - he's 3 weeks old, and we live in a different area than where DD goes to daycare).
if you child has been reccommended by your doctor than there might be support through speech and language or inclusive childcare services. If you ask your childcare centre for info on it you should get it. I am in leeds and grenville ( south of ottawa ) and it would be inclusive child care down here. you can also google the info. they might not cover all of it but might help with partial. hope this helps
